Wow. Just wow! I love this series! I love how real the characters are, and how the hard things aren’t nicely packaged and skimmed over. I love how things always end with hope, and how Salem gets mad at God and is still learning to trust Him. It encourages me to learn to trust Him more myself. Thank you for writing so authentically. Too many Christian novels wrap everything up neatly, but this series shows the messy awful hopeful reality of humanity.
Humorous Treatment of a Serious TopicThis is an interesting addition to the series. This story is well written and the words just flow while reading. However, the topic is emotionally intense and I could only read it a short bit at a time so I could mentally digest it and not get nightmares. While fun and funny, it has many triggers. SPOILER ALERT This story deals with pedophilia, child molestation, kidnapping, and sex trafficking. On the positive side, Salem's faith is challenged and reaffirmed...
I was given a copy to preview. As always, a wonderful read! Both funny and heart wrenching and true to life characters. Advances Salem’s story and adds even more life to her character. Can be read as a stand alone but highly recommend reading the series in order to get the best experience. You can never go wrong with a Kim Hunt Harris book!
She did it again!I loved this book as much as I've loved all her other books! They make me laugh, bring back memories, good and bad, of my own early sobriety days (months and years) and keep me guessing until the end.
Grabs your heart while grabbing your curiosity and humorSalem finds herself once again following Viv onto a case. This time they are True Crime podcasters, as they learned one needs a license to be a PI. The job is to find a girl who disappeared a year ago, when she was just 15. The case ends up pulling Salem into a deep trough of PTSD. She questions her sobriety, her trust in God, her belief which has helped her stay sober for almost two years. It threatens every relationship she has, as well a...
Good read With a Lot of heartThis book is a real roller coaster, highlighting just is high and low addiction and trauma recovery can be. There are moments you are laughing at the usual zany adventures of the gang and other moments where your soul is ripped apart. The fight through the long reaching trauma of abuse is poignant as is how hard it is to fight addiction. The trend to self medicate against trauma with addictions is real and the author handled it very well. It is something when a cozy
Amazing Amazing. This one had to be so difficult to write, not only is there plot & humor but the frailty of humanity and the evil all around us while shining God’s light even though we can’t begin to understand any of it. We fail, we survive and with the help of loved friends we face another day, and another. So many themes running through this one, so much heartache, but above all- much much love. Bravo to the dumpster fire!
Everyone should read this book!Very good book!Sometimes funny, sometimes sad and sometimes It will break your heart.Believable characters. Makes you stop and think about what us going on in the world today.
This book is well written, but it's mostly about a recovering alcoholic helping to solve a missing persons case. So much of the book was about the alcoholism which I wasn't interested in, that I quit reading. While I didn't like it, others may really find it fascinating.
Dazzling Dumpster FireThe Trauma that Salem face was heart breaking. I could feel her anger, confusion, and doubt. Alcoholism is a hard addiction to handle. Her struggle was real. But with her friends and God she became bigger than the problem. This was an amazing story. And I want more stories about her. I liked the character Ash!
I really like the cast of characters in this series- including the new Ash. And I also like that I am guaranteed some good laughs. This one however was really hard to read. There was some disturbing subject matter but it was Salem’s trouble with sobriety that was the hardest for me to read.
Salem starts out the story feeling ready to move forward with her life; move in with Tony, stop sleuthing with Viv, and celebrate two years of sobriety. Of course things don’t happen like that. A missing teen case that Viv takes on opens up the door to some dark demons from Salem’s past and leads her into a downward spiral that completely derails her life and causes her to question everything. Dumpster Fire deals with some dark themes but they are treated respectfully and the book somehow still
Good bookbut I didn't enjoy it as much as previous ones in the series. Perhaps it's b/c Salem's past catches up to her, or b/c her future became less sure. IDK. All I know is that she is real to me & she matters to me. Her feelings & well being matter to me, & I was worried about her. In this story she faces more than one darkness which no-one should have to face, especially not simultaneously. Darkness which causes her to question her faith but also to question God, Himself. Maybe that was it,
FictionWhat to say about this book, it was well written so it gets the five stars but not what I expected from the series. It was very intense with deep issues, not light hearted and funny like the past books. It had funny places but the serious issues outweighed the funny every time. And Tony, come on, who doesn't tell a woman she's still married to him for ten years, still wants to be married (or really just steady date) but is mad because she lived like the single woman she thought she was. S...
TouchedTouched something I have been through at age 9. Now 67 and no way to change the past. Had many laughs and many tears. Truly enjoy your belief in God, marriage, truth and dealing with real life!
Recovery Can Be A Dazzling Dumpster FireKim Hunt Harris has a wicked senseof humor. I love reading about Salem, her dog Stump and her friend Viv. There are several places in this book that had me laughing out loud. The addition of Ash is the perfect character to join Salem and Viv in their "discrete investigative podcast" antics. I liked everything about this book from start to finish. A great read that is easily worth a five star rating.
Incredibly good! Witty, heartbreaking, adventurous, and inspiring! Salem, Viv, and their new side-kick Ash are searching for a missing girl. In the process, Salem faces traumatic memories and current temptations. As always, the author deals with difficult subjects honestly and with sensitivity. Awesome book!
A "dazzling " book!Loved this book! Love the way she tied in the Christian beliefs, along with the mystery, along with her humor! I look forward to more of Kim's books about Salem, Viv, and Ash. (Glad to see Tony still in her life!)
I just love all of these stories. I love Salem, she is one of the most authentic characters I've " met" in a long time. I appreciate the bits of Christian/ biblical wisdom in the books! To me, it's not overkill, but part of the path Salem is working on. I will read anything Kim writes, I truly enjoyed this series, so far!!
Darker story about a missing girlThis is a deeper and darker story about trauma and its effect, even years later. This gets very deep for Salem. This could be triggering for some, I suppose, although it doesn't get into too much detail. And it still has funny antics.
