( Format : Audiobook ) "Cast your burden on the Lord."378 days sober, former drunk, Salem, with her brand new local smart phone, her needy dog, Stump, and.enthusiastic elderly friend, Viv, decide that the police investigations of some local robberies were not being conducted enthusiastically enough so started nosing around themselves. As a detective mystery book, it's definitely unusual, more an incompetent muddling, funny, but sometimes heart rending.Told in the first person, there's plenty of
Caught between philosophy and. SpiritualityI did not c are for the title, but the story more than made up for that. The premise started out with a young woman with questionable morals and gradually turned into a portrait of an earnest survivor of disfunctionality. Reading this book was entertaining and illuminating. And being a COZY, it came through with a satisfying conclusion.
This is the first book in the series of I have or should say listened to. I snagged a free copy of the audible and rather enjoyed the narrator. From what I gathered Salem is pretty trailor country (no offense meant) and the narrator was nail on. The story was funny with some rather interesting secondary characters. The mystery was rather easy for me to figure out. Sorry it was! But my only complaint is I think the cop works better as a love interest for Salem than her husband. You have to read t...
Good lighthearted read!Periodically I enjoy I lighthearted book & this was exactly what I needed. Good messages throughout, with a main character I can relate to at times. Someone who is growing in their faith & struggles at times. I think it's a good read for anyone who likes a Christian angle but not sugary sweet & unbelievable.
Salem and Viv are out to find the criminal gang haunting the neighborhood. G-Ma is trying to hold down the fort at her hotel, but every sound makes her think she's being invaded. Salem is almost finished with her probation officer and she's trying to come out of debt. There are some funny parts in this book. Much of it reminds me of Stephanie Plum. But there are dark parts, where Salem revisits the childhood horrors that she experienced. This is the first book I've read by this author. It kept my
Kim Harris Hunt knows how to make me laugh, cry, and think in the same paragraph. What a great series! Salem Grimes has a multitude of faults and deals with them in a hilarious and Godly way. I love this writer, who doesn't back down from discussions Christians need to have about homosexuality and addiction.
I enjoyed this book. Although it is in the mystery genre I am not sure I would call it that. Don't get me wrong there is a mystery but the home life drama is very much the focus of the story and what a story it is. I normally prefer stories that focus on the mystery and investigation side of things but Salem has dragged me into her life and I was hooked wanting to find out what was to become of her and her dysfunctional life. She certainly has her problems and will have everyone rooting for to g...
A Hidden Gem!I wasn’t sure what to expect from the title, but I was very impressed with every facet- depth of characters, right amount of background for those who had not read the previous books, and lots of great advice on love and forgiveness. I was not expecting this to include a character who started each day with daily devotions with God, but I’m glad she does and feel like I learned more about how I should begin each day. Highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading more from t...
Salem’s challenge Salem has a life that makes no sense. She is just running through life waiting for something to happen. She is praying but not listening when God speaks so her sponsor is trying to get her to listen. She blames her mom for all the bad in her life and when she starts forgiving that’s when things happen
I was a fan of Salem's from the first listen. Any chance to get into an audiobook with Salem, Viv and the rest of the characters is fine by me.In this installment, there isn't a murder to solve, but there is a string of robberies on G-ma's side of town. She's so spooked and generally trigger happy that Salem fears there might be an accidental shooting. Then there's the plot with Salem's mom back in her life as she's about to get married. Again. Then there's Salem trying to fix things with Tony.I...
So glad I continued on in this series. Also so glad they got rid of Dale. This book was more like the first where one funny mishap happens after another. We got to learn more about Salem and her life. There were the usual issues she has with her weight, faith and sobriety. However added to them were her issues with her mom. Salem seams to be evolving into a happier person, and learning to forgive those that have hurt her. She and her sidekick Viv are still up to their sleuthing and getting into
Wonderful addition to this series. In this one we find out more about Salems various relationships. Her and Viv are at it once again and guaranteed to make you laugh. You definitely will need tissues. The only downfall in all these books areall the typos...there's more to editing than spellcheck.Despite this annoyance, I look forward to seeing if Tony and Salem get back together. Also little Stumps cuteness.
Salem and Viv try to catch the High Point Bandits. I didn’t think the plot was quite as strong in this installment as in the others. It was funny but also had some very difficult emotional scenes. I sometimes get annoyed by the Christian fiction angle, however this series does not hit you over the head with it. Well ok sometimes Les does but not too often.
Really top drawerThis 1 deserves more than 5 stars, Salem and babe Go through The Pretty usual Challengers here. But there's so much more depth in the story and the characters. There's faith and angst And truth telling and real experiences that could happen to any of us. This is probably the best output that Kim hunt Harris has had yet.
Another fun Christian Cozy Mystery read (not my usual genre). Witty banter and lovable characters fill every page. This was a hard read as far as topic, but was well written. Warning: there are triggers in this book if you have survived sexual assault. Had I known this, I wouldn't have read it. "I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
ok, now I have to be honest, I'm just reading this to see how Salem ends up with Tony if she ever. Holy smokes I NEED MORE BOBBY!!! I really really really seriously hate the author, WTF! I honest to God think that Tony and Salem work better as friends I can't shake the thought that they are together only because she feels guilty about everything that happened when she was drunk and she is trying (extremely forced if you ask me) to make things right with him. Now for the romance part of the book,...
Salem (named after a cigarette) and her dog Stump and her friend Viv and Salems G-ma living in the town were there are a group of thought to be men who constantly were robbing businesses. Salems G-ma was constantly calling her and saying she called the cops because the robbers were going to rob her and she had a gun which was always untrue. The 3 ladies were doing their own investigating into the robbers . Salems life as a dog groomer and her style of life got really funny and crazy at times for...
Catching the criminals and staying soberI love the Trailer Park Princess series. Salem, Viv and Stump make quite the crime fighting team. There are so many stories contained in each book. Salem continues to beat the police to the punch. Especially impressive as she ekes out a living as a dog groomer, has a best friend who is a wild woman in her 80's, has a dog with extreme separation anxiety and works each day to stay sober. Fortunately she also has an incredible AA sponsor and friends who have
I LOVE this series!!I rarely come across a cozy series that I LOVE. I like most of them, but love is a whole different thing. Salem and her cronies are a total hoot!! This story was a bit convoluted at first, and it was so much fun to unravel!! If you like a good cozy, and love to laugh, this is for you! It would work as a standalone, but I was glad I read the previous book. I can't stress enough how delightful this series is!!
Funny & Intense!I just love Ms Harris' wit and wisdom! I highlighted several paragraphs and noted a few chapters to reread. Her book kinda came out as 2 stories. One to catch the High Point Bandit s and the other story about Salem, which I could totally relate to as being a survivor myself (age 5 to 21). Loved the outcome and it gave me hope and faith💜
