New direction for Ms. Gordon and I'm loving it.
I've come to the conclusion that the #1 reason I'm checking this new series is because the art is totally fab. That spread on Barbara remembering the party? Great visuals! The story is up to the brim in the 'indie and hipster' scene with pop references. Its so different from everything else in the BatFam. I might just stick with it, after all.
Very Good issue all around.
I enjoyed this issue a lot more then I did issue 35, the first issue of the new Batgirl run. One or two of the choices made in that one proved rather distracting for me. Thankfully that did not happen this time around. I really love the new art style a lot and the creative team is portraying Barbara a bit more like the young college student she really is and less like an older more mature adult. Granted I loved the way Gail Simone wrote her but she did often come across as being older then she r...
I love the new Batgirl! I think that it's normal for people to be afraid of change, and that's exactly what this new series is: change. It stands out against anything else DC, at least in the current New 52 Batman 'realm'. I think that what they're trying to do with this new series is appeal fans who are kind of tired of rainy days and darkness. I for one am relieved to see sunshine! This edition specifically has great artwork that we've seen already in 35 and can expect going forward. I agree it...
Still getting used to the art. Barbara continues to investigate who knows her identity, and apparently she has a connection to an anime she watched as a kid. It's kinda heartwarming, though the story could pick up a bit more.
The fight continues, the um, fight to recover the contents of Barbara Gordon's computer which was stolen by a goon bent on exposing everyone's private lives to the whole world. But it also contained her college work, which is due. While out searching for help to recover her files Babs runs into a techie at a lab whose smart bikes were just stolen. Conveniently two women on killer bikes with swords show up, like bad guys out of an anime, aiming right for Batgirl. When she tracks them to a warehou...
The writing in this issue reads like that of a prime time TV show. Story B (involving main character's personal life) provides a thread to Story A (involving super hero/professional life), Story A is resolved, and issue ends with minor advancement in Story B as well as the over arching "season plot." It's become all too formulaic and common on TV and I find myself tiring of the format. It all seems lazy. Even more distressing are the cliche tropes that crop up in this issue (ie. the taboo of a y...
This series just keeps getting better and better. Hello Black Canary- I can appreciate you when you are not being adapted for TV by Katie Cassidy- #36 is soo great.
I still love the art, and the story was better in this issue. I really liked the Jawbreakers.
