I'm seriously enjoying this story. I don't know much of anything about Batgirl, and find the new 52 + revamp to work well for me since I'm just learning the story. The art is wonderful too. I read the first volume of the new 52, and I had a hard time getting past the art style. However, the art in here is really refreshing. I disliked the main cover when I first saw it, but at least it makes sense now. I got the varient cover instead, which is so pretty :)
The reveal was very lackluster, and apparently it proved to be so offensive to the point that DC issued an apology.
First of all, if you're following Stewart's reimagined Batgirl, you should read these two great posts (which contain spoilers) that explain the problems in #37:http://www.autostraddle.com/how-batgi...http://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/2014...Then read this apology from the creators: https://twitter.com/cameronMstewart/s...---This series (starting at #35) is a very mixed bag for me. While I'm happy that it exists, I'm still sad to have lost Simone's version of Batgirl, which I liked so much better....
Dialogue felt a bit choppy. Completely understand the disappointment over the treatment/reaction to Dagger Type's character, but hope Stewart and Fletcher won't let readers down and make up for their faux pas in future issues. Tarr's artwork is still very much on point!
Zur Erklärung für die niedrige Bewertung: http://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/2014...
I'm more of a marvel/independent comic fan than a DC fan, but I loved the new batgirl redesign by Babs Tarr, Cameron Stewart, and Brenden Fletcher I couldn't help but see all over tumblr, so I decided to pick an issue up and check it out, to see if I'd want to read more.First of all, the art by Babs Tarr, with colors by Maris Wicks (who drew me an awesome Hawkeye-as-a-giraffe at this past year's ECCC), is fantastic. It's playful and engaging, with great pacing and style. I'm not surprised, as I'...
What a diva haha
wait.. this isn't the same storyline as the Harley Quinn comics is it??
Kudos for showing weird Brooklyn art things, but the psycho cross-dresser trope is problematic.
While the new run of Batgirl is quickly growing on me we do run into another problem in this issue. But first let's start at the beginning.Someone is imitating Batgirl and changing her reputation in Burnside. Barbara follows a lead which takes her to a Batgirl art exhibition headed by a guy who goes by the name of Dagger Type. Alysia makes a reappearance as well! When Barbara does track down the location she things Dagger Type will be at she finds the imposter Batgirl there instead and a fight n...
Well, that was... quite ridiculous.
Agree with everyone else who criticized it for being transphobic. Glad the writers apologized, although I guess we'll see if do better in the future. On a positive note, I will say that I loved all the sparkly art in this issue.
