Mindfields is on par with the two prior installments, but the main story goes on a just little too long. Villain-of-the-week 'The Fugue' - a guy who can hack into someone's brain and plant false memories - was actually a good antagonist (for all the trouble he initially causes), but the colorful story could've been tightened up a bit. Much better was Batgirl assembling various trusted gal pals (check out that 'selfie'!) to individually face off with, Mortal Kombat-style, Fugue's lawbreaker allie...
A little better than the first 2 volumes but not by much. The whole thing with the Fugue was just stupid and made no sense. There are sooo many characters in this book and because we haven't spent much time with any of them, I don't care about any of them at all. It's like someone created a cutesy indie comic, tried to cross it with a video game and then inserted Batgirl into it.
you know, it wouldn't have hurt this run to be a little bit less confusing. but the villains character designs are amazing and I just really really love Babs (Gordon and Tarr, honestly).full review here: https://catshelf.wordpress.com/2017/0...
While I haven't been reading graphic novels long, I've definitely found some that I absolutely love, and BATGIRL is one of them!! There's just so much to love about it! The artwork is phenomenal, and the stories are intriguing and keep me glued to the page! Since I haven't been reading comics long, I'm fairly new to the DC fandom, but I've loved being introduced to various characters through Babs! I love Babs! I can tell that even as I read more graphic novels and get to know more and more chara...
5 stars Very good comic book. Glad to see that Barbara is getting outside of Gotham. Nice to see Black Canary, Bluebird, Spoiler, Frankie, and others help Barbara out. Also nice to see the villains too. It's good that Barbara's mind was able to be fixed. Hope she and Luke Fox will be able to have more fun adventures together. Can't wait to read more Batgirl comics!!!! Also can't wait to read Batgirl: Beyond Burnside!!!!!
I really enjoyed this collection. This time, I did NOT read the back jacket description before starting it, so I was able to read it like I would any other anthology.Of course, the comics in this volume seemed to flow into one another well. (Just my luck, that.)Happily, this volume did pick up where Volume 2 left off. That shadow-man was the Fugue, messing with Batgirl's memories. :-)I enjoyed seeing Babs come out on top in the battle versus the Fugue. And then it moved relatively seamlessly int...
A mercy killing of the series that couldn't have come fast enough.
Too many characters without development or tension.
(B) 74% | More than SatisfactoryNotes: A lazy, listless final leg, it's storytelling hibernation; smart to start, but falls apart: a cheat code cakewalk culmination.
The art is still adorable, but I just can't seem to give any fucks about the plot. Everything is pretty generic, the Bad Guys are all by-the-number, and the resolutions are a bit too easy.I will give this one a pat on the head for trying to bring diversity to the cast, because even if it seemed at times somewhat gimmicky, at least it's trying.Ok. Yeah.I just don't have much to say, I guess. If you've been enjoying this one, then I think you'll like this volume. And if you (like me) are less than...
I received this book from Edelweiss and DC Comics in exchange for an honest review.1 star, because I can't go any lower.I really don't like the overly-simplistic route in both story and artwork this series has taken. It's terrible. I don't know if DC is doing this to try to gain some young female readers, but if you ask me, it's pandering and degrading.Bring back the smart Batgirl/Barbara Gordon and not some ditzy girl who's more concerned about missing a date with some "hot college guy" and the...
**I received a free eARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**I really like this Batgirl, she's very fun and knows how to kick butt. In this volume, we also get to see some of her friends, like Spoiler, Bluebird and Black Canary, who are now part of her team. I definitely enjoyed seeing all these girls working together, but there were some things that bothered me as well. There are three stories in this, and they all had a flaw. The first one was very confusing, ther...
Most of the book was really really good. It was going to be my favorite out of the three. Then the last 25% or so just came out of left field and left me feeling really confused. Oh well. the art was pretty cool. And there was this one part in the middle that was pretty dark and I love dark shit. So. Overall good book. Just weird ending.
Day 2 of the 7 consecutive days of comic book reviews on the WondrousBooks blog. This is the first and, so far, only series that I have followed through, and at the beginning, I was extremely excited. (Review of Volume 1) Then Volume 2 was so-so. And then... this happened.I am really disappointed with Mindfields. I rated it higher than I actually felt like, because I am aware that it is not such a bad volume, it is only bad in comparison with the previous ones, especially the first volume, and t...
Once again, the artwork is amazing. But, I don't know, this is such a by-the-numbers book. The villains are practically interchangeable, the plot is predictable and repetitive (they pretty much admit to rehashing the same plot as the first volume), there is no wit to the dialogue... I just wish there was something other than the art that made these books stand out.
I must admit the best in the series was the first volume, the second and third just grew into a convoluted storyline. Batgirl was redesigned during the New 52 and I think it was for the better, the Gotham vigilantes were missing some humour and this series was the logical choice to mix it up. The storyline here is more of a Birds of Prey crossover and that wasn't the ideal mix for this series. I enjoyed the book but I still think they artempted too much here. I liked these better then the revamp...
The final installment in the Batgirl of Burnside and I thought that it came to a nice end. There were a few stories in here that I was like, what even is happening? But the final story where they wrap everything up was nicely done and left room for more if the author decides to ever go back. I still love all of the artwork in these volumes. So vibrant and colorful, it really brought the world to life.
3.5And with the end of the New 52 comes the end of Batgirl's stint in Burnside! I know that there are more stories to be told, but it looks like Rebirth has decided to bring her back to Gotham. So we got three collections of Babs kicking it in the Brooklyn analog in the DC Universe, and I think that while they started strong they got a little less and less to my liking. That said, while I found MINDFIELDS to be the weakest of the bunch, I did love the progression of the characters and Batgirl's
Sad to see this series come to an end. The whole gang was back for this volume (including Black Canary & the kids of Gotham Academy). I love these characters & hope they'll be back for more adventures in spin off stories.
Trippy.
