According to Chinese tradition the body has two souls, a superior one which is the principle of survival and an inferior one whic in the West would simply be described as a psychic residue. When a person dies the superior soul leaves the body, the inferior soul dissipates and the body decomposes. However, sometimes when the psyche is particularly strong the inferior soul persists and animates the body as a stupid destructive vampire lacking the intelligence of the superior soul. Hedre is a selection of tales of vampires, also of wolves, foxes and other animals, all translated from Wieger's Folklore Chinois Moderne. This is an interesting collection and quite different from Hollywood versions.. It makes interesting reading.
