Paranormal murder mystery in a hidden town tucked into the world. The story has a touch of a coming of age feel - Emma has just learned that not only is she trapped in a town of things thought myth, but she is a witch herself. Actually, it reminds me a lot of Once Upon A Time's first season but without the amnesia.
3.5 STARS - Curse the Day is a cozy mystery set within a supernatural world and features some rather unique inhabitants. One doesn't have to believe in fairies, wereferrets, witches or gnomes, but it can't hurt!Emma Hart, finds herself stranded in Spellbound, a cursed town where various supernaturals have been stuck for centuries. Fans of magic and the supernatural, who enjoy a lighter read will enjoy getting to know the residents of Spellbound and seeing how Emma tries to fit in and find her wa...
This book series is interesting. The MC, Emma, is not flighty and easily influenced. She's actually a lawyer and just learned she's a witch after she's trapped in Spellbound by Daniel (a fallen angel). We learn about the town, the different types of supernaturals living there, Daniel's past, witches, the academy, the previous public defender (Gareth) who died (vampire death?) and more. It's a world I am intrigued by and I totally enjoyed reading this book. I'm currently on book 3. I give this bo...
Such a cute and fast autumn read. This book is just like an upgraded Halloween Town. In this cute cozy paranormal mystery, lawyer Emma Hart is driving in the Poconos when she gets lost and accidentally is trapped in a forcefield surrounding the town of Spellbound. An angel named Daniel, explains to her that the town was cursed long ago and any supernatural being who passes through its borders can never leave, which surprises Emma, since she is human. Or is she? I would recommend this book if you...
I've been in need of another cozy book, so this was a nice 'n short beginning to a series to get me back into cozy audio. There were a couple of cringe reveals towards the end that weren't necessary/didn't really add anything, but I'll reserve too much judgment on those in case there's a need for either reveal as the series progresses. I'm always here for the protagonist heading to a small town, and I like that in this one, she's stuck there and literally cannot leave! (view spoiler)[The superna...
This was a fun cozy mystery and the first that I've read by Annabel Chase. What I most enjoyed were the entertaining characters and the mishaps Emma Hart encountersin her witchy education. There is also funny dialogue that made me laugh, like when Emma is called Nancy Shrew. 😄The mystery was a bit flat for me, hence the 3 stars. It didn't come across as very well developed.I would read more by the author as a light fun cozy.
In this cute cozy paranormal mystery, lawyer Emma Hart is driving in the Poconos when she gets lost and accidentally is trapped in a forcefield surrounding the town of Spellbound. An angel, Daniel, explains to her that the town was cursed long ago and any supernatural who passes through its borders can never leave, which of course comes as a surprise to Emma, since she’s totally human… or is she? Now she has to adjust to her life as a newly discovered witch, figure out how to defend a goblin on
I think the best description of this book is fluffy. This is not a bad thing. But if you are looking for a book with depth and intense characters with deep backstories, this is not it.To me, this reads like a campfire story. Or a book you read aloud to a group of people. It's cute and simple. The characters are described a few times but you don't really need full descriptions, if that makes sense. It is a good little break. It's like watching cartoons after watching LOST. You just need something
I enjoyed this book. It was amusing and the characters were fun. Several times I had to stop reading because I was giggling. Not an angsty book, even with a murder to solve, which I liked. I was in the mood for something fluffy and enjoyable.
Fanciful, fantastic, and fun. Suspend all belief (this is a cozy after all) and sit down to enjoy. A human (she thinks) finds herself confined in an unknown town named Spellbound that is inhabited by supernaturals and where no one can leave. Such fun.
There is a difference between 'fluff' and 'vapid.' Unfortunately, this book doesn't seem to recognize that.Even if your intention is to write a cute, light, fluffy story, it needs to be internally consistent and believable. And I just can't suspend my disbelief hard enough to buy the premise of this entire setting. (An isolated community of supernaturals hidden in the Pennsylvania woods for several hundred years, that's small enough that everyone knows everyone else, but that still has multiple
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.4 sta...
Halloween 20203.5 starsThis is such a quirky book that at first I was thrown by the writing and plotline. Though once I decided to roll with it, I found the story enjoyable and original. After trying to save someone's life, lawyer Emma Hart ends up trapped in a supernatural town. Turns out she's a witch and the guy she tried to save is a fallen angel. In Spellsbound, everyone is supernatural and no one can leave the boundaries of the town because of an old curse. Emma is thrown straight into one...
