Gunfight at Spanish Wells: Loner with a Badge # 6

Gunfight at Spanish Wells: Loner with a Badge # 6

Jeff Breland
0/5 ( ratings)
Hoping his pursuer would see the rear door open and continue through it, Jake held his pistol at ready in case the scenario didn't play out that way. Once again he consider the best laid plans of mice and men. Just as the man was about to step through the door, he glanced into the covey hole.
The bounty hunter realized he was dead before Jake pulled the trigger. While the man hesitated for a moment with a startled look on his face, Jake fired. The bullet entered just to the right of the bounty hunter's nose and exited the back of his head. Blood, bone shards, as well as spent lead spattered the adobe wall to his rear.
The other bounty hunter had made it to the back and was firing wildly at the door as his partner was toppling through. Some of his hastily fire shots may have inflicted further injury to the dead man.
Jake didn’t linger in the covey hole. As the man fell through the doorway, he ran back to the front and out into the street.

Jake Barns has just been busted out of jail where he is charged with the murder of three railroad detectives and a deputy sheriff. That doesn’t include being the number one suspect in a train robbery where three members of the crew are killed. Disregarding the supposition of honor among thieves, Jake gives two of his cohorts the ultimatum of breaking him out or going to the gallows with him.
It’s an easy choice for them, but not long after, one of the jail breakers finds himself in a similar situation. Rather than allow himself to be arrested, he shoots a federal deputy marshal and the sheriff. Moments later, he is following Jake’s path to Mexico.
Even in Mexico there are those would will attempt to collect the bounty on their heads. Their attempts, like the attempts north of the border, will be answered with bullets. Despite living the good life south of the border, circumstances will require them to return for the stolen gold. It’s not going to be as easy as they might think.
