Nailbiting action. Also the movie is a clear recommendation!
Although I enjoy thrillers, I don't usually read works written by men, and this book embodies pretty much everything I hate about the sub genre. The murder in itself is gruesome, intricate, and frighteningly plausible, which is the reason why I decided to try and break my "no male authors" rule (also Jean Reno, but that's beside the point). But that's where my praise stops.Niémans is a boring male superintendent with and entire closet full of anger management issues, to the point where he's borde...
For about the first half of the book I had to force myself to keep reading it. It did get a bit more interesting when it was becoming clear that the two cases were connected. But I didn't really get hooked.. The descriptions of what the protagonists saw were too long for my liking and contained a lot of strange phrases I'd never expect anyone to use in real life (they had me frowning at least once per chapter). Also the ending really disappointed me to be honest - it was way to abrupt and seemed...
The ending was unsatisfying like what happened to Pierre or to the girls or to the Karim? It should have had en epilouge. It was a nice thriller but a little poor written.Jean Christophe is a good storymaker but not that good of a storyteller.Maybe it was the translation from French to Turkish but his storytelling was very lackative. You wouldnt get any idea of what's happening like he just didnt use good words or enough words to tell how a story unfolds.I wish story stayed the same but another goo...
I started with the first book in the series after coming across him by coincidence. What a story! Riveting from the get go. Brutal in his descriptions and horrific in the background for the story. Will need to read more of him.
For me this is the best book of this author.
Another state of art from Grange. Even Grange cant get the same level again.
Grange is awesome like always! The bomb! Loved the book, the plot is great, keeps you guessing until the end. Can't wait to read more books by Grange.
This author has mastered the art of the fast paced thriller and while I appreciate his matter of fact sparse prose, the narrative loses steam and falls flat on the pages like a hot air balloon as he attempts an implausible hasty wrap up. By then he’s abandoned the narrative that held us in thrall and one is left with the impression he’d literally lost the plot or he’d realized he’d written a great yarn round a ridiculous premise and decided what the hell, it’s not all bad.
Crimson rivers, Grangé.I need to talk about the cringy writing. The main character (Karim) is terribly portrayed and his insight is a huge caricature. I could see the writer used expressions that sounded, according to him, relavant to a Muslim man. Except that didn’t work out at all. It was grotesque, and even laughable. I did not, even once, believe in the character’s reality. However, I must point out that the way the plot is driven is quite interesting. Two main investigators are following tw...
Truly a masterpiece. Grangé keeps his level far above ordinary human levels of thinking after The Flight of Storks. Although its end is a little unsatisfactory for the keen readers of the genre the book as a whole is a spectacular piece of art. One remarkable point common in both this book and The Flight of Storks is that Grangé gives a subtle clue for careful readers that help guess the killer and even if you take the shot and accurately find out who the killer is, the book does not lose anythi...
Good story with one major flaw: the film tie-in edition with the photo inlay take the ending away! Thanks publishers!!
That's a good novel, written well but of course there were some things which sounded very easy and very simple. There can be more suspicious stuff or may be some more serious investigation. but overall the book was good and the thrill was good too.
'Breathtaking' in one single word.
One of the best thrillers I've ever read. Jean-Christophe Grangé's writing style is direct, full of force and embellished with beautiful, dark descriptions. In this book, the forces of nature, the darkness in the human mind and soul, and the mysticism associated with the Alps lead the two main characters down a spiral of lies and bloody deeds. Karim and Pierre are realistic protagonists, their interactions are powerful, even entertaining at times. This is one of the rarest of cases where the fil...
Feverishly, Paul Bryant flicked through the pages on Manny's laptop. An icy sweat trickled down his forehead, mingling with the blood and dirt that was already encrusted into its luminous pallor. Now he understood Manny's secret. Everything made sense. He had been so--"Hold it right there."He looked up and froze. Manny stood facing him in the doorway, his right hand wrapped around the butt of a 7.65mm Glock. The barrel was pointing directly towards the Nottingham reviewer. "I see you've worked i...
Again the author offers us a brilliant thriller filled with suspense. The story comes with twists and turns. Well developed characters, overall an excellent thriller. Recommended without a doubt.
I enjoyed reading this book. For a while I thought I was going through one of the best thrillers ever written. But I must say that the ending was not satisfying at all, way too abrupt, all of a sudden it is coming to a quick a simple end.In addition, I found exaggerated the way Karim was portrayed, too caricatured. The character was not credible.
A very interesting plot. I have indeed enjoyed it.
For some time I have been searching for French crime writer who could live up to the standard, set by British novelist. Pierre Lemaître was the first to match his English peers in my opinion. Jean-Christophe Grangé is, most definitely, the second. The story is full of suspense from the very beginning until the very end. It is well-constructed. Each chapter ends with a real cliffhanger, which makes you want to read on and on. The setting and scenery are well-painted. The characters, especially the...
