Bella says good-bye to her old house, but her new house doesn't feel like home. With the help of her favorite stuffed animal, larger than life and anthropomorphized, Bella adjusts to her new surroundings. She even finds a kindred spirit for a heartwarming ending. Really lovely illustrations are mostly digital though they feel like traditional art.
Bella tries to help her stuffed elephant friend Stella adjust to a move to a new house. It's nothing like their old house with a different colored kitchen, a claw foot tub and different sounds at night. Ilustrations are soft and well-matched with the characters' feelings. This book gently addresses a child's concerns about moving without coming across preachy or condescending. Very well done. I would recommend this title to a parent looking for a book to explain/assist with issues regarding relo...
A MUST-READ for kids who move! Loved the subtle, yet telling, text and the comforting, gently humorous illustrations--a perfect match! Bella isn't too sure about moving into a new house and neither is her stuffed elephant Stella. Everything is different from the smell to the colors to the light (lack of it) and so much more. Both Bella and Stella want things to be the same as the old house, but as they settle in and their furniture and toys are brought in, things feel more familiar and they even...
This was a super cute book and I LOVED how the illustrations were used. I felt the sweetness of the story and loved how well balanced and mellow it was!!
Moving is always filled with apprehension, and when you're very young it's filled with big apprehension. What is delightful about Bella and Stella Come Home is it captures this apprehension so beautifully and with such warmth and humor. Kids will love Stella and wish she were in their arms, in their beds to cuddle, and with them when they have to face something new and something scary.I won this book and am delighted I did. My kids adore it.
Bella is not happy about moving to another house that is not much like her old one. She and her imaginary friend Stella (an elephant) feel the same way about things. This sweet story is beautifully illustrated, and when the reader gets to the final pages it is obvious Bella and Stella will settle in just fine -- with new friends. Very cute.
A very sweet story about a girl's apprehension about moving into a new house. The illustrations are gorgeous... detailed and soft at the same time, with an absolutely smooth transition from reality to the child's world, where her stuffed animal offers her comfort. A touch of humor at the end ties it up beautifully. A great book for a kid moving to a new place.
Cute book about moving to a new home and the fear and the trouble with getting used to new places and bringing along your stuffed friend. I think this is really fun and cute for 4-8 year old children.
I dare anyone to read this book and not smile when they turn to the last page! It's the story of a little girl, Bella, and her stuffed elephant/imaginary friend, Stella as they move into a new house. As Bella walks down the three front steps of her old house she clutches stuffed elephant Stella and tries to assuage Stella's fears about moving. As they ride off in the car, taking one backward look at the old house, we see that Stella has morphed into a "real" elephant. Once at the new house, the
In this endearing picture book, Bella says goodbye to the house she has always known and acclimates - by proxy of her stuffed elephant, Stella - to a new home. In a two-steps-forward-one-step-back rhythm, Bella and Stella push through the unfamiliar to discover the possibilities that await in their new environment. Muted lines and a soft pink and yellow palette add to the text's gentle warmth, making it a great pick for kids experiencing the uncertainty of moving.
Sweet story about a little girl and her toy elephant moving to a new home. Read it with two 3 year olds, Katie and her friend who is obsessed with elephants!
This is a fun book for any child who has a favorite stuffed toy or doll and for any child moving. Stella and Bella have to move. What will they think of their new house? We haven't really moved with my daughter yet. She was only 12 months old when we moved into this place. It's going to be a couple of years before we have to move again, so this book isn't exactly necessary... but I like the message that it teaches. It's OK to feel strange in a new place. It's OK to be frightened, to be unsure, and to be angry about being forced to move into a new home. But in the end, it will start to feel like your old home, and you'll get comfortable. I'm going to have to reme...
I adore this book. I think the illustrations are absolutely charming and have fallen in love with Bella and Stella--I just love seeing Stella through the childlike eyes of Bella. I'm certain this will be a big hit with the patrons at our library and am thrilled I decided to purchase it for one of our locations.
A book about moving and being willing to find something good about the new place while acknowledging the real loss of what you left behind. Imaginary friends always a plus.
This book is so dreamily illustrated in soft pastels that it barely need the words. This effect usually only happens when you have a husband and wife team working together as is the case here. This is the tale of Bella and her stuffed elephant named Stella. The story begins as they are moving from their current home of probably many years to a new and unfamiliar residence. The tale is told by Bella giving all her fears and concerns in the voice of Stella. Together they go through these changes a...
A charming book fit for everyone who's been a little hesitant to move out of their childhood home. Luminous illustrations cast a magical veil over Bella's world which features a life-sized elephant friend - but the artwork also helps convey the mysterious and even frightening new setting a big move brings.
Bella and Stella Come Home is a cute read. The illustrations are adorable. When we first see Stella, she's a stuffed animal, but on other pages she transforms into a life size elephant, giving us a glimpse into Bella's imagination. At first the new house seems different and not like home at all. But after Bella finds her tea set and her room starts to get set up, she realizes that maybe a new house isn't so bad. A great picture book to read if kids are moving to help ease their fears. It's also
Bella is a young girl who is nervous about her move to a new home. Fortunately, she has her stuffed elephant, Stella, to help her get acquainted with the unfamiliar environment. At first the new home is intimidating. In fact, the first night, Bella has to sleep with the lights on. After that, it's not so bad. He belongings arrive, and she discovers the new neighbors seem really nice. The illustrations are what really make this book special. They are done in rich tones of pink, yellow, and purple,...
This is a wonderful tale that helps to soothe and explain the pain and confusion of moving for young children. I wish we found this book 6 months ago! It has terrific illustrations which depict the power of a child's imagination. We really enjoyed reading this book together and had a good discussion after about the trials and tribulations of picking up a home and moving to a new place.February 2017 update: Saw this book on display at our base library and it looked colorful and somewhat familiar....
