I read the entire trilogy. I enjoyed the first two books and pre-ordered the third. I was very excited about it. After reading it, however, I kind of hated it. I wanted to like it, but I found the storyline between Lan and Alli to be too fluffy this time. I wanted a little bit more grit and less "I'll sacrifice myself for the love of my life". I know the gene of young adult/ teen reads often has this type of storyline, but I was expecting something better.
I’m a bit torn on this one. The story is well written and the world building is amazing. But after finishing book 3 I am left with this thought…why is Alli the one that always has to pay the price? Why would anyone want to be the hero when in the end they have more taken away in the name of balance? I don’t want to say too much because I truly don’t want to spoil the book. But I just feel like the ending was not fair. Or at the very least it was not satisfying. After the life that Alli had lived...
I'm only going to write a review for this one. Honestly, I'm just so disappointed in this series. Throughout all three books, I thought the story was convoluted and indecisive and all too convenient at times, but dammit, the writers WRITE well. I just think they are terrible storytellers. This final installment felt like a show that got cancelled midseason and they had to wrap everything up quickly but still make time to have a lengthy epilogue. It was very puzzling. I finished the whole trilogy...
