I liked show they fill the box each month.
My LFL find is an enhanced edition for the school market, with a poem & some non-fiction. I enjoyed seeing the development of the concepts of collections and of the months of the year. For kindergarten, I think.
about a child who gathers an object that represents each month in some way. The box is empty at the beginning of the year and full at the end. Simple, sweet, educational. Illustrations by Donald Crews.
More Helvetica, and some really neat textured illustrations, "black-and-white photographs reproduced from line conversions screened with a 'Lasergrain' pattern. Color was added by hand with film overlays." What's Lasergrain, I wonder? Also, the little boy at the end of this book looks just like a storytime regular, and he beamed at the last page! There should be more picture books featuring African-American children.
I loved the theme of growing and changing. This book could potentially influence a child into collecting things and turn that into a hobby.
A child adds one seasonally appropriate item to a box each month: a scarf for January, a seashell in July - until December when the box is presented to someone special. That's about it, though I did enjoy the bold, graphic look and colors of Donald Crews' artwork.
Kindergarten unit: months
An enjoyable book about seasons, the months, and sharing.
