Some incredible Batman short stories here. And a lot of not-so-great to average Batman stories. Worth it for the absolute legends who participated.
After chipping at this book for over six months, I finally finished it. Over 100, 8-page short stories. On the one hand, it's all the Batman Black & White stories in one book, a great way to discover new writers & artists, and to read Batman stories by your favorite creators. On the other hand - and inevitably, as with any short story collection - not every story appeals, and the reader's interest is hard to sustain. Best taken in small bursts.
This is a collection of over 100 eight page black and white Batman written and illustrated by like, everyone. With this format there are going to be highs and lows and there sure are, but more than that the glass ceiling this collection keeps beating its head against is also its mission statement. There is zero cerialization in these stories, each one is meant to stand on its own. While that lets each story serve as a potential good jumping off point for new readers none of these stories can bui...
When I first started this collection of stories I expected it wouldn't take long to get through this book. It did end up taking longer than planned, this is not something that is really meant to be consumed in a single setting. I have utmost respect for the for artists and writers that contributed but honestly this collection was a mixed bag. For some of these I think a longer story length would have helped.
Reading Batman: Black & White Omnibus is a dream project come true. I love short stories, especially when these short stories about Batman is their version of the writers and artist wants it to be. This, I feel, is a good collection of short-stories, eight pages in length, of what their version of Batman is in glorious black and white. Although most of these stories are good, there are some that is just alright or okay, none that is bad but there are some that are a little weird. I had fun readi...
I'm a huge fan of the DC Collectibles Black and White Batman figures, I have plenty of them. So I was very excited for this read. I hate to say it, and will probably be in the minority, but I did not like most of the stories. And i found the artwork quite difficult to follow/read in some instances.I wouldn't say not to read it if you're a fan of Batman and the artists; but, for me it left a lot to be desired.
I finished reading this more than a month ago and have had a hard time writing a review for it, because I hate to write negative reviews. It's a beautifully produced book and the art is top notch. The art, for me was why I bought the book, in fact. The problem is with the very concept of Batman, I think. This is a collection of 8-page Batman stories and they range from silly to what I can inly think the authors feel are deep psychological explorations of the human psyche. The silly stories are f...
