Note: I received a finished copy of this book from the publisher at ALA Annual 2019.
The art in this graphic novel is pretty compelling. Added to the unique storyline, this book is quite fun.
As a stand-alone book, it’s too short.
I usually really like limited coloring, but the changing between purple, blue and orange felt random and distracting in this. Seeing the cover gallery in the back, I think full color would better suit this story. Parts of the story were confusing as I couldn't tell when they were happening. I originally thought blue was for things in the past but then it was blue when they brought the stone to the temple so it was very confusing.
Much more cohesive story than the first volume! But dang this sure does leave on a huge cliffhanger, hope we don't have to wait long for the next volume.
I can’t rate it higher because it’s unfinished. A lot of worldbuilding with no payoff.
Amazing art, story and dialog that makes this graphic novel a page turner.
Magical libraries? Yes please!
I was super excited to find this at SPX this past year, and wasn't disappointed when I finally read it. I love the hints at worldbuilding scattered throughout, stories told that hide and show plot points, and intriguing new characters. The artwork is amazing, lively and appealing, and the use of color to depict different times and places was a nice touch. The ending to this one is even more of a cliffhanger, and I hope the next book comes together soon!
This is a series that I keep stumbling across and going "oh, yeah, that was a thing I should read." As with the first book, I think I started reading this as a webcomic, but releases were slow and I eventually drifted away from it. Reading it now, there were some parts that felt familiar, but some of the familiar parts came after sections of the story that did not feel at all familiar. It builds nicely off of the material from the first volume. Not just a single night's adventure into a dangerou...
I didn't realize that there was a previous book until I came here to mark the book as read but I was still able to follow along well enough. A pretty cool book of giant libraries and supernatural creatures.
Oof, that cliffhanger hurts.
Oops, read the second book in the series first. But to its credit the story made sense.
I enjoyed this volume a LOT more than I did the first one--everything felt much less choppy and much more developed. Only I really thought this was the end, and it's not! Is there a third book? It looks like right now there is not. Will there be a third book eventually? I have no idea. But I hope so, because the story is very clearly not over and there are still many mysteries waiting to be explained. I guess hopefully Wartman gets on it soon?
Fast-paced fantasy comicWhat I Enjoyed: Although I haven't read the first book in this series, Wartman does a decent job of creating a standalone plot. We get to know the characters in multiple omniscient third party point of views, with meaningful color breaks while switching. Each character is intriguing in their own right, and I look forward to seeing what happens to them in the next one!The Downside: I wasn't sure if there will be a third comic? The end of the story certainly points to more
