I don't think I'm the right audience for this book; I really had no frame of reference for what it was supposed to be: Retro goth? Body horror? Bizarre horror? "Bizarro" fiction? I'm guessing it's a nod to that H.P. Lovecraft shit that people still eat up.The writing itself isn't bad, and there is a good helping of imagination on display, but the story was confusing (non-linear or just randomly strewn together?) and I didn't relate to, or care for, any of the characters; the goth-rocker/scienti...
This is a stylish, audacious novella rife with glamorous weirdness. Not weird for weird's sake though; there's a definite aesthetic that the narrative jumps and disorientation and surreal imagery all work towards and I don't know if the experience can really be conveyed in description so just read it all in one go and make sure you're sitting down.
I didn’t really understand one word of this. Maybe the “bizarro” genre isn’t really for me? I don’t know if the writing style was the problem or the subject matter itself; I just couldn’t follow. But it was a short novella that I finished in one afternoon and what little tiny bit of the concept I did understand was very original so I’ll give it 3 stars.
Easily one of the top 3 books I've read this year.
