This was such an enjoyable read. This is my second Mike Omer book, and I have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The characters are quite diverse, and I really like the humour the Author has added in. After sitting on a stakeout for many hours, Hannah thought her and her partner Bernard had finally caught Devin Derkins for drug dealing, and hopefully then be able to track down his supplier. Unfortunately for them Devin is sick, and the man they catch is Mikey who is unlucky enough to be filling in...
“If there was one single reason to be a man, it was the ability to pee in a bottle.” With this opening line, you know at once that this isn’t just another police procedural mystery — this is a Mike Omer mystery, and that means large dollops of humour mixed in with the serial killers and blood. I’m not normally a fan of police procedurals (give me a cozy any day), but I’ll read anything this man puts out. I love his books.I enjoyed the first in the Glenmore Park series, Spider’s Web, but this one...
Turned out to be a good readIt started out kind of slow but eventually picked up once they got into the actual investigation of the murders. I was not impressed with Hannah, one of the directives in the story because her biggest motives for solving the crime was to impress her colleagues and she was too bossy when it came to her partner. However, I just loved Jacob and his partner Mitchell and the way they work together on investigating murders. Jacob is especially interesting as the older and m...
The second book in the series, but not really a sequel. Kind of like an updated version of the The 87th Precinct series of police procedural novels and stories by Ed McBain, though I find those to be more humorous. This book has two murders to solve, and both story arcs are good reads. We learn a bit more about the detectives from book #1, but there is no appearance of the serial killer from that book, which bummed me a bit. Also, no Zoe Bentley in this one - another bummer for me. But I enjoyed...
Anticlimactic and boring Unfortunately this book is terribly boring compared to the other Glenmore Park crime reads, which is surprising considering the writing skill of the author. Two separate cases, four detectives, two murders and no thrill, no chase, no “who dun it”. Weird ending that seems more of an afterthought, as if he was over the story and decided to wrap it up quickly, like a tv series that gets canceled and leaves you wondering “wait, what?”. I’m sorry to say I wont be reading any
3.5 stars Two cases, two murders. The 1st victim was disgusting indeed, he deserved what he got. I got lost for a bit around the middle and toward the end, nevertheless interesting and enjoyable.
Average story. There isn't much suspense that leaves you hanging onto the edge of your seat. the story plods along.
"But the best -laid plans of mice and men oft go astray. Sometimes, they go astray because of an anonymous phone call. In this case, it was a phone call reporting a murder, A woman named Dona Aliya had been strangled to death. Just like that, Jacob and Mitchell were snatched from Frank Gulliepe's case, and thrown unceremoniously into a completely different murder case."....Detectives Hannah Shor and Jacob Cooper each have a murder to solve. Hannah feels she has to prove herself after a previous
Mike Omer has again written a brilliant story. We see a lot more of some of our favourite characters from the first book and now we know them better it's a lot easier to keep up with who is who.2 separate murders, 2 separate victims. This was a brilliant read and still had me gripped however it lacked a bit of suspense which is why I have marked it down a star.Nonetheless still a brilliantly written book.
2.5#2- All over the map and unfortunately, I didn't connect with any character.
Typical of This Author ... Quality Storytelling With HumorThe characters continue to grow in their personality, and even Mitchell becomes more likable (is this a spoiler alert?). This was a page-turning quick read. The story lines are different than in the other three Mike Omer books I've read (the first of each series), which was a pleasant and enjoyable surprise.
This was a pretty good book, short and sweet. I really like Mike Omer, a fairly new author to me. Hannah and Jacob are detectives who have a case to solve, one for each. Hannah has already made mistakes so she's out to prove what she can do; Jacob is bound and determined to solve his case. He meets with extra difficulty with his case.I like the characters. I thought the plot was good but not excellent. I really like more suspense and sit-on-the-edge-of-my-seat plot and with this book I wasn't th...
Deadly Web by Mike Web 11/3/2020 Kindle I read this book back to back with installment one of the series, and shortly after reading a couple of the author’s other works. Characters from that series also show up in this Glenmore Park group. If I had read this book as a standalone I think I’d have been even more confused with the multitude of folks involved. Detective Hannah Shor leads the way as she tries to enhance her wilting resume with a top solve. She sees her chance when a Mr. Nice Guy
An entertaining readHaving read the first book in this series and thoroughly enjoyed it, I was a little disappointed that this wasn’t a direct follow on from that. Although some of the characters re-appeared, I was a bit surprised to be given completely new characters who I didn’t know anything about. It took me a little while to get into this one, however after the first 3 chapters it all started to come together and I found the new characters every bit as interesting as the ones I was familiar...
The Deadly web is a novel right after the Spider’s Web, my last book review. Which is 400 pages long, which genre centralizes on Thriller, Mystery, Suspense and Police procedural. Mike Omer the author “has been a game developer, a CEO of a gaming company and a journalist in the past.” (Sacha Luella Draycott, 2019). A majority of his books are on the theme of crime, makers of crime and the victims of it. This novel was published June 25th, 2016 shortly after the publication of the prior novel. Th...
A peek at the various reasons for murderI enjoyed this book because it shows different killings for each one. I really couldn't imagine having to sift through the process of uncovering a killer. The reasons for them are so different yet the results are the same. It's amazing how much you really don't know a person just by being their friends. We all have a public personality that the world sees yet we all carry our own baggage that we don't share. It's amazing how much our social media platforms...
Three stars is generous, I wish Goodreads would give us half-star options, how hard could it be? Two-and-a-half stars is more accurate. This book was not up to Mike Omer's standards; his first Glenmore Park Mystery was much better. In this book, Omer seemed to be trying to flesh out his characters and their relationships. While that is not a bad thing, this attempt fell a bit short. The two-murder story line was not as interesting, either, and the video game section was boring and irritating. I
