Did not see the ending coming.. the book grabs you especially in the last few chapters. A bit difficult to get into but once you start oh you can't stop
More depth than your average page turner, this psychological thriller was a pleasant surprise.I couldn't help but feel sorry for the main character even though I didn't really like her. And my initial judgement was nicely paralleled by the morals told in this story, which centre around:- perception not being a fair representation of reality- behaviours are hugely shaped by our past experiencesThis is a story of lies and deceit, manipulation, depression, loss, alcoholism, patience, and the amazin...
I couldn't put the book down OMG
One of the best thrillers I read. A friend of mine suggested this book. I was instantly attracted by the story line. I was about to watch the Hollywood movie of the same name but decided to put on hold for it until I complete reading this thriller. 'The girl on the train' never disappointed me and it stood above my expectation. Hats off to Paula Hawkins for such a wonderful novel. To craft such a remarkable thriller in the first attempt requires talent. Paula Hawkins is gifted with that. The nar...
Captivating. Thrilling. Could not stop it although it's a very common story.
This book was a lovely psychological thriller. I was on the edge of my seat, and read it in one sitting. The way small details are revealed every chapter is intoxicatingly addictive, leaving the reader wanting more. There were a few loose ends by the end of the book, which is why i gave 4/5.
I'm not clear on who is enjoying this book. Characters are amazingly unlike able.
I found this book extremely dark and depressing and the characters in it are super messed up (but then again who isn’t?). Was there really a mystery? I feel as though it became so predictable towards the end and when the twist happened I was literally sitting there thinking ‘surely not, this can’t be it.’ There was so much hype to this book which built my expectation but I ultimately did not enjoy it.
I have wanted to read this book after watching an instagram story of a friend. The cover of the book had attracted me at first. I got an opportunity to go through during this lockdown and I am quite satisfied with the read.Psychological thriller with depth of an event and twist in the end that would give you goosebumps. Although it seemed quite boring in the beginning , the story would go with the flow in the end that keeps you turn the page continuously. One thing that I ain't satisfied is how
Too slow moving, not much tension built, the showdown was very short and not very gripping... I liked the idea and the format and how the reader can get his own theory about what happened but like I said, the plot as a whole is very slow and doesn't seem to go anywhere specific.I read it in german so I cannot speak for the original, but the german translation was language-wise not outstanding and not remarkably bad, so I guess acceptable for a Thriller.
Terrible read! Going to be very honest here. Author Paula Hawkins kept repeating herself too often in the novel. The main character was a psychopath an alcoholic who never took responsibility for her own actions! Deranged!Reading along I wanted to close it and throw this book away after only a couple chapters! But it's a "who done it" murder mystery and so I had to find out so I did finish it. I would not recommend this book to anyone! It was full of lying, cheating, deceit, harm to children, amo...
Riveting. Couldn't put it down, and I'm not normally up for such a sit on the edge of your seat book...wondering who dunit til the end.
Did not enjoy this book. So much hype but I never really got into it.
The book was good, the average psychological thriller novel. However the main characters repetitive story line really bored me at times, and the ending was obvious and a bit rambly…I liked the end twist but not nearly enough to class it as an “chock-full of thrilling twists” like the daily mail put it. One fine twist at the end and that was it. Well written and developed characters… sooo idk - not the best
Okay unpopular opinion in 3, 2, 1 If you are easily butthurt and consider this book a lifesaving/lifechanging/or any other word exaggerated to the power of infinity, then read on your own caution. Anyway, you might like this book if you have never read suspense or thriller and don't know what is the definition of a thriller. This book had awful characters. Which I think the author did intentionally. They were supposed to be unlikable. I don't have a problem with that. But seriously though where
A very well written but dull story. I was expecting a better twist / untying.
Girl on the train was to me the way thrillers are being written these days. The constant backwards and forwards of the narrative and the use of dates and sometimes even times of day can break a stories spine. I suppose the intention of Paula Hawkin's is to leave you guessing to the final pages which is understandable but I felt the constant flashbacks and different plotlines of the characters broke up a potentially great thriller. Yes it was absorbing but I felt I had actually been on the train
The novel is a little slow and, since clues come up little by little, I couldn’t wait for the truth. There’s no much tension throughout the reading because the novel is pretty much a psychological thriller, thus no huge twist in the end. A bit disappointed by the main character and her self-destruction. I was hoping for a strong social redemption from her. What I liked the most is the perspective from different characters. However, it’s an enjoyable novel which I recommend.
I'm only a 3rd of the way in and I just can't stand it. Nobody communicates how they feel at all ever to each other. Except when Rachel is drunk. Everything is just hush hush or swept under the rug. None of these people exhibit any self-love and the only thing that gives any of these women meaning in their lives is men. The men are all so selfish. The one self-absorbed guy who both times he has now been married can't push either of his wives to get help at any point. He hides emails, conversation...
Love the book although I don't like none of the characters. It reveals the dark side of some people in the society, also reflects how a person (Rachel) can be driven to the edge with the social environment going against her/him. When you think in a more logical and analytical way, i would rather see it a psychological thriller than a crime one.Tom is so tricky and cunny to make good use of the weakness of surrounding people to achieve his vile and filthy goal towards women: Play and Dump.Rachel:...
