An ascendant lord trying to cement his family's power at any cost, while a disgraced lord weighs the cost of reclaiming the his reputation against the lives of his men. "Void" is set in the far future of Iron Empires, where human kinds once glorious galaxy spanning empire is in the midst of along decay. Published almost 20 years after "Faith Conquers" shows a once great power grasping reassert it's waning power through military might (sound familiar?) It's a good story and is beautifully painted...
This third Iron Empires story takes us into the Void, where we see some intense space combat. I have enjoyed how each volume gives us different types of engagements, but with Void, it is clear that there is a conflict that is present in all three volumes: even against external threats, mankind is the biggest threat to itself. In the case of Void, it is sycophantic games of power in the high echelons of the Comoran Worlds, where having favor with the highest nobility is more important than actual...
The review is more about the story than the edition itself because my copy from DrivethroughRPG was of bad quality and the images were not entirely sharp. In general, I love how each volume of Iron Empires shows a different perspective on the world. Another great graphic novel in the Iron Empires setting. This one focusing on politics and fleet actions rather than struggle against the Vaylen. I have to admit that I saw where the plot was going early on, but that didn't lessen my enjoyment in seeing how it got there. The writing is competent and the artwork is beautiful. While the art has always been good, you can see a lot of improvement from his earlier works.Highly recommended to anyone who likes the genre.
