One of the nice things about this series though, is the fact that you don't necessarily need to read the first two to hop on the bandwagon. You could start with the third and get caught up with the main story points in short order.This time around, Felix is doing some work in Toronto that is much more mundane and far less life-threatening--for a while, anyway. I have a soft spot for supernatural noir, so it isn't surprising that I loved this little book. I look forward to reading more.
Black-Eyed Kids is a great romp through the world of Felix Renn, PI and magnet for supernatural trouble. This is the third Renn story I've read and I'll gladly stalk Mr. Rogers for more.Black-Eyed Kids gives us more tidbits surrounding the Black Lands as well as the government agency developed to deal with Black Lands related incidents. We're also teased with various bits of information that I can't wait to see fleshed out in more stories. I enjoyed having more action in this installment as well...
"Black Eyed Kids" shows a Rogers has upped his game, depicting the world of Felix Renn and the Black Lands with an increased level of sensitivity and deftness. Renn's trade-mark patter has be quieted a bit in this outing, but where the tale lacks in wit it more than makes up for with darkness and horror. There are some gruesome images in the novella, but nothing distasteful, and nothing that doesn't want you to read more. The tale moves like a runaway train, and I defy you to not finish it in on...
Rogers continues to engage and intrigue with his trademark cross-over of the supernatural mystery, which is both a blessing and a curse.
