A bit frustrated with the inclusion of Mary Hale and Abraham Lincoln Lincoln a book that focuses primarily on the Pilgrims Thanksgiving -- confusing for kids to keep the people straight when two from a different time period were thrown in the middle of a discussion on the 1600s.
I was so excited when this book started out claiming it was going to set things straight. It has some good moments in regards to this, but it shows white kids dressed in stereotypical native dress throughout which kind of shows that they tried but still missed the mark.
Alphabet format tells history of Thanksgiving in rhyming text that is surprisingly accurate and up to date.
Read this book during a story time today for Turkey Day! The kids enjoyed pointing out the letters and looking at the pictures. Enjoyable book for all ages.
It was cute.

I am always looking for great childrens books that go along with different seasons, holidays, and themes. This is just a fun way to celebrate Thanksgiving, while teaching about it, and going over the basics of the alphabet. This would be fun for kids to make their own abc book of their favorite thanksgiving traditions.
GREAT ABC book on all things Thanksgiving! Great to read to Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten classes! They can learn a lot about the holiday, and the incorporation of the alphabet is great for young students!
A great book to introduce letters and holidays to young students. This book is full of really eye catching illustrations and colors that help to intrique young minds. Perfect for this time of year and a lot of fun to share with younger students to help them learn the letters of the alphabet.
I liked the idea of teaching about Thanksgiving through letters of the alphabet. And I liked that readers are told from the beginning that, "Some myths we'll set straight." Unfortunately the illustrations (cartoony children dressed in stereotypical Thanksgiving outfits putting on a play) didn't support this text.
I thought it was a creative way for kids to learn about thanksgiving. I liked how it was formatted through the ABC's. I enjoyed the pictures and I know kids would love it too. I like how it gave a brief sense of what thanksgiving really is and its not all about the turkey (the food). I think the ABC's format makes it fun to read and understand because its less wordy and doesn't look like a textbook form. A very fun picture book.
This is a ABC book that revolves around a children's school play. Each page is a letter from the alphabet and it goes from A-Z. The book talk about the voyage the pilgrims made on the mayflower. Then goes into life in America to meeting the Indians to how thanksgiving came about. The book has some good information and good illustrations. Grades k-3
T is for Turkey is a wonderful ABC book! It is wonderful for kindergartners and has amazing illustrations! They are by far my favorite and the words all involve thanksgiving lingo! Great for teaching young children the meaning of thanksgiving while learning there ABC's
We bought "T is for Turkey" by Tanya Lee Stone at the end of the year last year. I kept it away to read before Thanksgiving this year. This book is in alphabet book form as it explains the true thanksgiving story. A school puts on a play to tell the story. The books helps kids celebrate everything from Harvest to Pilgrims to Turkey. This book is so creative with the words on each page. Also the illustrations by Gerald Kelley are so colorful and really tell the story of the play. We loved the boo...
Seasonal books for my preschool classroom often do not teach a lesson but T is for Turkey: A True Thanksgiving Story is an alphabet book that covers most all the points about the first Thanksgiving with darling illustrations and rhyme. The children love this book and often ask for it long after the holiday is over.
An excellent introduction to the idea of Thanksgiving, clearing up several horrible misconceptions that will, unfortunately, be pounded into the heads of children over the years. My nephew and niece both enjoy reading it as well.
This is one of my favorite books about Thanksgiving. It's a rhyming story with fun illustrations that talk about things related to Thanksgiving from A to Z. At the end of the book, the author has a page with details of Thanksgiving. It starts out:"A is for the American story our school play will tell. Some myths we'll set straight, other facts you know well."It explained some things:"G is for 'Good Morrow,' it's what Pilgrims said.'Hello' and 'How are you?' is what we say instead.""I is for Indian...
This is a great book I can read with my whole family. While my oldest is much to old to enjoy books about the alphabet, she loves the way it's written as a poem and the facts that go along. She and I were both impressed to see that they actually found a word for the letter "x" that started with the letter! Good job on that one!I have a feeling this will make a great holiday read every year. It's written in the format of a play performed to explain about the Thanksgiving tradition. The kids have
I just read this online at http://www.wegivebooks.org My boys are a little old to appreciate the alphabet, but the vocabulary is excellent and I even learned some new things I hadn't before. It helps set straight (in a gentle, easy to read way) a lot of the misconceptions we have about Thanksgiving.
With the subtitle "A True Thanksgiving Story" it is clear that this author hopes to dispel some myths about the holiday. Nicely done...setting is a school play and words used to represent the alphabet are not limited to nouns, adding some depth to the story.
