Maybe I'll read it again when I have goals I want to work towards but it wasnt suited for me and my life at the moment. Some parts were motivating but other parts felt very fictional and unrealistic - following Lena's story etc. I didn't like that the author writes about all of his setbacks as a writer as it hones in on one specific unrelatable path. It also poses the question if you've come across all these setbacks as a writer then how are you writing about setbacks? Seems quite contradictory

I'd say the book is more a 3.5. The book is well wrote with no simple fuss free jargon. There were parts I really liked and parts I really disliked. Very standard Adlerian self-help backed up with very little evidence, clinical experience, and with a heavy dose of pseudscientific psychological theory. Not really sure what this book brings to the table. Perhaps more useful repackaging of what's has already been stated elsewhere with useful chapter summaries when you want to skim or review.

One of many motivating self-help books. Positive and supportive touch. Brains are built to notice and remember failures. Remind yourself how your failures probably were not the end (also at a larger scale of humanity) and take the learning side with you. For more positive focus list actively your successes to steer away of endless negative loop.

This book raises some good points, but I expected it to be more like the Obstacle is the Way and it is more for people who feel a bit lazy and need some motivation and tips to continue. I still learnt a lot from the book, and I love the author, but I thought that the book lacked structure and was just a collection of advice about how to succeed in life.

Erikson is like that mean professor in college that gives you a lot of challenges because he knows you can handle them. This book is one a lot of people need to read. Some parts of the book spoke to me, especially on the profiling. It was brutally honest at points, and like facing a mirror- crucially aware of my strengths, my weaknesses and how this affected me in setbacks.
