This book was so much fun! This origin story of Neopolitan and Roman's partnership had incredible character developement and tied in nicely to the RWBY universe that we already know and love. Definitely my favorite of the RWBY books!
As a fan of the show RWBY, especially the criminal underworld element that the show rarely explores, this third novel was one I couldn't wait to read. Unfortunately, it's writing is mediocre and there are quite a few poor story moments. I can say that Myers absolutely nails the characters of Roman Torchwick and Neopolitan; they act exactly like they do in the show and this was the best part. Things fall apart during the more hectic moments, like fight scenes. Characters have inconsistent levels
I'm not good at reviews, so, all I can say is: I've loved RWBY since I was introduced to the series back in 2014. I have loved every bit of it, from the world-building, to the creatures, characters, music, and the story as it has evolved, and with the release of books in the series (After The Fall, Before The Dawn, and Fairy Tales of Remnant) it has only increased the immersiveness I've felt for the franchise. This book doesn't keep up with the heroes, but it's a backstory of two seemingly loved...
the pink one so terrify, loved it
I think that this was better than the first two books in the series, but also perhaps less interesting in that it didn't have the "what's the deal with Vacuo?" question to answer. I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone who wasn't already a RWBY fan, but reading it was useful for understanding Neapolitan's background, which I assume will be important for Volume 9 when it someday comes out.
Neopolitian and Roman Torchwick are the Bonnie and Clyde of Vale. Roman Holiday is the third RWBY novel and the first to be a prequel story to the series, which explores the origins of Roman Torchwick and Neopolitian and their partnership. It was especially fun reading Neo, who in my opinion is the star of this novel. She doesn’t speak at all yet E.C. Myers did a fantastic job conveying her expressiveness and charming personality in his writing. Neopolitian was already pretty cool, however this
Very fun to finally get a back story for these two, I excepted a bit more but it was good for the most part.
This was cute and fun, exactly what I was hoping for! Backstory for these two is something I've always wanted. They're charismatic enough to carry the story by themselves, and I only wish there was more of the same.
It was good to finally here some backstory for Neo she's always be surrounded in mystery.
Here we go...I was relatively late to the RWBY watching party, but after watching the series, I got hooked and 8 volumes better, I was reminded of why I appreciated Neo so much. This author has done a good job with the other two books, but this one was a LOT different. Sure, I was not a fan of Torchwick in the series, I think this book took a chance to show the charismatic, lovable, and mischievous side of Torchwick. But that's about where it ends.Because although this was a relatively quick read...
I wrote this! During a pandemic! Whew. That was a thing.
To be honest, this book wasn’t the worst thing ever. I enjoyed a lot of the chapters that were from Roman’s perspective, and I thought there was a lot of interesting stuff on the Malachite twins and other side characters that only get briefly mentioned in the show. I just feel like the story could’ve benefitted from more emotion. -sorry but I don’t like the name trivia. -Roman and neos relationship felt rushed and kinda random at times. - Istg if I ever see neo kick Roman again, I will manifest
BACKSTORY TIME!Roman is objectively the best villain. Bad guy, sure, but a classy bad guy. And I absolutely love getting Neo's backstory, she is now my crime child, I have adopted her. The only danger in having read this as soon as it came out is, now I have to wait forever for the next one.
I'm bised AF. I adore and love anything RWBY and this was no exception.I love that they give us the villain's backstory. Specially these two, Neo and Roman are really loved characters and I loved getting to know their origins and how they get together.now when I re-watch RWBY I'll be seeing them with different eyes and even more fondness.I have to admit, I did not expect this book to be set in before (I believe it's before? don't mind me I get confused easily with timelines) it all, since the ot...
Neo and Roman the Best Partners in CrimeRoman Tortwick always works alone. That is, until he meets Neopolitan in Vale. Stories in Remnant are never happy forever. Steal, deceive, and survive with everybody's favorite crime duo as they learn who they are, and find meaning in their tragic lives. An origin story guaranteed to be action-packed, emotional, bittersweet, and a highly-anticipated read for any Rwby fan. I leave out romance because it's not written as one. Chibi Neo has been bold enough t...
I can't believe I went into this knowing it was the backstory of a dead character, now I'm sad and will never know happiness when the series comes back ever again, best criminals I've ever known, they deserve to blow things up
Just a quick review here since I do not ever really review books. I'd like to make two points regarding this book. The author, E.C. Meyers has now written 4 of these companion pieces to the RWBY animated series. And I truly believe that his storytelling has gotten better with each one. Especially with this book, I am drawn further and further into the lore of the RWBY world of Remnant. Mr. Meyers takes the characters already set up by the series and makes them even more interesting. They come to
No offense to Team Coffee but I liked this choice better, to follow RWBY's most charismatic villain and one of the bright spots to come out of the never-ending train wreck that is RWBY's production. At points it really made me miss early season RWBY even more. I feel like it was a little contrived to work in as many known minor characters as it did, but it's forgivable. Characterization was a little spotty, some things just felt out of character but I think it was more hit than miss. My biggest
Typical in these RWBY novels, the world building is easily the best part - but I still actually enjoyed seeing Roman be Roman and Neo (or Trivia) become Neo. Really fun fight scenes, use of semblances, and schemes! I thought it was off that the two MCs don't even meet until halfway through, and the actually development of their relationship seemed a bit rushed. Roman sees that Neo is halfway decent and smart - and is suddenly all about training her and bringing her on heists. He's got a soft spo...
RWBY is one of my favorite animated shows of all time because of its awesome characters, so I loved this book for giving me the backstories I had been wondering about for the past eight seasons. Getting to read from Neo and Roman's perspectives was really special, and I enjoyed the tie-ins to other characters in the show as well. There were no surprises in the plot for me personally as there were in the past RWBY novels, but it was a quick, enjoyable read. I recommend to anyone who is a fan of t...
