This is the prequel to the Edge of Collapse and the main character is Liam Coleman, an ex-soldier who has been damaged by his service and prefers to now live a reclusive life out in the wilds. He has been coerced into visiting his identical twin brother Lincoln and his heavily pregnant wife Jessa in the windy city, Chicago, for Christmas. A heavy snow storm hits as he arrives and on the drive out from the airport, the car suddenly stops and everything goes dark! Their car has crashed along with
I just want to make a note that there need's to be more books with the main AMAB character who is knitting or crocheting! Well, now when this is out of the way, the story is actually really good and gives a lot of important info for book 1.
Scary in a realistic way. I am interested in seeing where this goes. 4 stars
Holy heck man this ok hits you hard.I freely admit I am a sap, the tears bro that I cried. But that will not stop me I am diving into this series head first damn.
Kyla has put out a story that will have many more to follow. Chaos Rising is a bit sad, and yet heart warming, and it sets up the following books nicely.
I am always searching for new authors to try and after reading a brilliant post apocalyptic book, I was in the mood to read more of the genre but the next book wasn’t out for a while. I have joined some groups on Facebook so turned to those, checking out what had just come out, what people were talking about and I saw the cover for Chaos Rising which instantly made me want to know more. I needed to know who the lonely looking figure on the cover was, why were they alone, where were they going, e...

I fell in love with Kyla Stone's writing while reading the Nuclear Dawn series. So, when I saw that she had written another series involving an EMP event, I knew that I had to give it a try!Liam Coleman has reluctantly travelled from his remote hideaway in Michigan to visit his twin brother, Lincoln, for Christmas. Lincoln is suffering from severe PTSD and his pregnant wife, Jessa, has asked Liam to come and try to help. Minutes after they pick him up at O'Hare Airport, their car is involved in
OMG! Wow! What a start to a new series! This may be this author’s best work so far! I can not wait until the release of this series. I will say again, if you have never read anything by this author you are missing out!! This book has it all, fantastic characters, heart wrenching decisions, life and death choices and a great storyline. I understand Liam emotions in regards to not having his gun or knife on him. The difficulty and emotions of being in crowds. I am a combat veteran also and It’s
The Entire Series is Worth Every Minute of Your Time to ReadI started reading this series with Edge of Collapse, then this one. I've never before chosen a book or series with a situation that makes me feel better about our worldwide pandemic. I not only didn't expect to become addicted to Ms. Stone's writing, but I feel by reading this right now, it's helping my mental health. I'm so addicted that I'm almost done with book 4! We had trouble with our wifi at home yesterday, so I drove to a local
This short story is a prequel to the dystopian Edge of Collapse series.Through a very action packed ride from O’Hare Airport to downtown Chicago, the main character Liam, visiting his twin brother Lincoln and sister-in-law Jessa, are anticipating a family Holiday when an ultimate disaster strikes. There is a lot of depth to the characters development here: Liam and Lincoln are military vets, both suffering varied degrees of post-war syndromes; Jessa is an accomplished medical professional, but ph...
This was a bit of a melancholic read, but understandably so given the circumstances of what's going on in the book. It's a very compelling read, nonetheless. Incredibly realistic which makes it scary too. It's pretty much what I'd picture actually happening if there really was an EMP. I liked Liam a lot and am eager to know what happens to him next. I'm very much looking forward to book one. If you're a fan of these types of stories, I recommend checking out this quick and entertaining read.
I bought this for my teenage daughter, who doesn't really like to read (how is that even possible?) but likes this author. The next book looks more intriguing, but this is a quick intro to the post-EMP world. Liam is a little too stoic, I hope he has a bit more personality in subsequent books.
This is the story of Liam and an EMP which caused a car wreck with Liam, his twin, his sister-in-law and her unborn child. I liked the story which had a few minor curse words and then one major word, which was not out of place in the dialogue. This is a prequel so there is no solution to Liam's troubles. I would like to know what happened but I don't think I will pay to find out.
Great to get a little back story on Liam
It was pretty good. Short.
Five. Big. Fat. Stars. This author and this plot deserve nothing less.
