I devoured this in less than 24 hours! A problem I have with anthologies is that a lot of them have a few good stories and then you want to skip through everything else. NOT in this one! This was made for those of us who laugh during horror movies and it's not full of cheesy (gooflumps) stories. Questionable pistachio salesman, how to care for a demon baby, a typical vegan, there's even aliens!I'm following all of these authors and waiting for more.
Horror meets humor. Fear meets funny. Lamentations meets laughter? OK, maybe that went a bit too far. But, Can you laugh at shadows? I can, I did. This book is hilarious. I didn't know that I needed a humorous horror anthology, but I did. It was fresh, maybe even a bit of a palate cleanser. I often spout off about reading broadly. I often say that I have to step into other genres outside of horror so that I do not get desensitized. If all I read are haunted house stories, I am going to lose the
Excellent! perfect pandemic read, I only wish it had been longer!
Great fun to be had! Not all sat well, but most did and I got a special kick out of a handful. Added bonus, the length was perfect. Huge anthologies begin to feel like a chore and this one was over with hardly any boredom (like I said, some weren't for me). Funny. Silly. Horrific. Totally entertaining. Laughing at Shadows earns its cover price and then some.
3.5 stars round up to 4 for Goodreads.Laughing at Shadows is an anthology consisting of twelve horrifying tales injected with a toxic dose of dark humor. Ranging from creepy and demonic to the downright bizarre. This felt like R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books but with a mature content sticker slapped on the front cover. The stories within run the gambit of the different genres in horror, vampire, demon, serial killer, creature feature (not your typical monster), ghosts, alien virus, etc. all blende...
Laughing at Shadows is a delightful collection of stories that are both dark and funny. As someone who loves to laugh, and who loves horror, I thoroughly enjoyed this collection. There is a wide range of topics in this collection. I read stories that featured a dragon, sea monkeys and a cartoon pistachio character. Some stories were gory and some were a little quieter in their spookiness, but most of the stories had me chuckling. Hands down, my favorite story was Captain Pistacio’s Charming
Horror + comedy! Two great tastes that taste great together! I had a lot of fun with this anthology and discovered a few new writers. I was sent a copy of this book for review. And I will write a proper review soon! Just know that this anthology is worth seeking out - especially if you’re partial to your horror with a side of funny!
I recently read Laughing at Shadows which was very kindly sent out to me as a physical copy to review. I have to admit sitting through a few of the stories feeling a little bemused, they were good, but in a completely different way to what I would normally read.Once I got a little further through the book though, I found the stories that really called out to me. So I’m going to talk about my favourites as I often to with collections like this. I’m not going to complain about the ones I wasn’t so...
3.5 out of 4 stars. An occasionally funny but never laugh out loud funny and somewhat uneven mix of horror and comedy. Or is it comedy and horror? Hmm...good question.
I really dig this cover, though I've no idea why it's not showing up at Goodreads. Check it out via Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Laughing-at-Sh... Premise:Who says you can't laugh at horror? We've all heard of being scared silly, so obviously there's room between slashings, hauntings, and summonings for a good knee-slapper. And that is exactly were this book of dark-minded but lighthearted short fiction comes in.If you've ever giggled at guts, chuckled at cannibals, or laughed at severed limb...
Laughing at Shadows edited by Brett Reistroffer is such a great collection of tales that mix horror and dark humor perfectly. From the silly to the downright horrific, this book has quite the range! This book comes out on March 3, 2020. It’s one you will definitely want to keep an eye out for!Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book by the editor in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.If you’ve been following me for a bit, you probably already know...

Laughing at Shadows was so much fun! It’s horror and comedy all wrapped up in a little package. It’s exciting to read something creepy that also makes you giggle! If you’re looking for a good time, and looking for something that isn’t too brain melting and will entertain you til the end, pick this unique little collection up!They’re not the most earth shattering stories out there but like I said, they’re fun!
