Cute tie in if you already follow Fiona's story. Seriously, someone needs to write a book about Timothy, the SA Zoo hippo.
Super cute! The illustrations are fantastic.
Beautiful illustrations and a cute story!

Ah! Love this new Christmas title! So sweet and fun--the kids and I loved reading it together! A definite recommend for your own Christmas library or for a gift. Thanks for sending a copy my way for review, Zondervan!
Fiona, the famous hippo from the Cincinnati Zoo, has her first Christmas. This is a sweet (but not too sweet!) sharing of the love and friendship that blossoms during the holiday season.
This picture book was a perfect Christmas read. And I'm not going to lie, I read it aloud to my pups. It's Fiona's first Christmas and she is strolling through the zoo spreading Christmas cheer and learning about the true meaning of Christmas. The first thing that sticks out about this book is the artwork. I love how all the zoo animals, especially Fiona, are depicted. There's so much to look at in each and every picture and the coloring and details are wonderful. I love animals of all kinds and
A VERY FIONA CHRISTMAS is an adorable children's book about a hippos first Christmas. Set in a zoo, there is a host of other animals that help Fiona discover what Christmas is. This is NOT a Christian title so there is no mention of the true meaning of Christmas. The focus is on having fun in the snow, presents, Christmas trees, friends, and love. There is also no mention of Santa.I love the artwork and the sparkly cover.A mainstream children's book, this is suitable for anyone, of any denominat...
I received an audio copy of this in exchange for a fair and honest review. Obvious, as a picture book, this would be better served by actually reading it. But I think the narrator did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. Fiona had a consistent voice, and the other characters were distinct enough that I could tell them apart. There were a few times I could tell the narrator was reading a sign on the page, and that felt a little jarring considering it was breaking up the story and the flow...
A young hippo in a zoo learns about Christmas. This book had really great illustrations!
Nice book
So cute, I loved this so much. The art and the message were great and cute little Fiona was great too :)
The illustrations are darling, and the gentle storyline makes this one ideal as a bedtime story. Although Fiona is a real hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo, this story is pure fluff and fantasy. I honestly would like to see more info about Fiona or hippos in general, as hers is an amazing story. Once again, we see a white tiger cub frolicking amongst the other animals. The American Zoological Association bans the breeding of white tiger cubs by its member zoos out of concern for both animal welfare an...
A Very Fiona Christmas is a delightful story of a baby hippo discovering Christmas for the first time. Living near Cincinnati, I am familiar with Fiona. She was born six weeks premature at the Cincinnati Zoo. She survived and thrived and has become a favorite of young and old. Richard Cowdrey's illustrations are fantastic. The color and movement of the beautiful characters will delight children. If you are looking for a gift for an animal lover, and what child isn't, pick up a copy of A Very Fio...
While I generally love all things Fiona-related, this book was not one of them. There were no clever nods to other animals mentioned (by name) in the tale, no reference to indicate that this hippo lives in the Cincinnati Zoo or that Fiona is growing and thriving despite her rocky start to life. It felt more like a flimsy excuse to further the author/illustrators alternative agenda of promoting Christianity where it does not need to be mentioned. I honestly regret purchasing this book and giving
Challenges: Book-A-Day in May 2021 (21/31); Reading Goal Posts/Stacking the Series - Priority Three/Tier Seven. The first of three books to read for this date in May, Fiona learns what Christmas is, not just the lights and fun with her friends, but for everyone to be included in the heart of giving on this special day. Note the little Koala bear from the new animal enclosure that shows up in many of the illustrations. Detailed and heart warming illustrations as usual by the author. Loving this v...
This is such an adorable children’s book!! It is a story about how the hippopotamus, Fiona from Cincinnati Zoo learns what Christmas is all about and how to celebrate. The illustrations are lovely and there is a great message in this book that Christmas Is about others. I appreciate the importance that is showed how giving to others was a beautiful thing.
“It was in that moment that Fiona finally understood. Christmas is friends and fun and snow and lights and trees … and love!” ends Richard Cowdrey’s children’s book, A Very Fiona Christmas.~ What ~At thirty-two pages, this oversized hardbound with a front cover that has glitter targets children ages four to eight years old. With no scary scenes, it is a nice story about one’s interpretation of the meaning of Christmas, experienced through the eyes of Fiona, a charming hippopotamus. Containing so...
This is a fine story about a hippo named Fiona, worthy of 3 or 4 stars. But as a story about the "Fiona", the book just doesn't work. Richard Cowdrey has the association with Cincinnati and thus the Cincinnati Zoo, so he should have been able to include details about her home and about her personality. Sadly he failed to write a story about the social butterfly that is the real Fiona just like he failed to reflect her home.
