"The projector being aimed
at a whiteish screen on its shoogly stand
was made ready to purr, when,
reel to rattling reel, the story was spun"
- Aonghas MacNeacail, remembering which film
This anthology of new writing on cinema is part of a three-year collaborative research project between the University of Glasgow and the University of Stirling, on the history of the Highlands and Islands Film Guild , a mobile film initiative which brought film to rural communities throughout the Highlands and Islands.
Focusing on the theme of ‘memories of cinema-going’, the collection draws together writing selected from an open competition, alongside new commissioned work from five celebrated writers — Christine De Luca, Aonghas MacNeacail, Kevin MacNeil, Alison Miller and Christie Williamson —all of whom hail from places where the Guild screenings took place.
