I enjoyed looking at this and reading it on lunch breaks. I'm not very knowledgeable about art, and I'm still not, but I might recognize a couple now?
I was tickled to find this little treasure at the Met! My original plan was to buy a bunch of postcards, but I was able to buy this book with hundreds of pictures from the Met collection for the price I would have paid for just 8 postcards. I heart the organization, I heart the variety, I heart its versatility for use at home or school. 😍
Just too small for some of the pieces to be really appreciated.
Love this! Great size for kids, fun layout, and a good mix of art! They did a great job balancing styles, origin, and types of art as well as including well known and lesser known artists. And the pieces included by well known artists were not their most famous pieces. All in all, it really gives kids (AND ADULTS! 😉) a chance to explore art they may not have seen before.
Circa 1970: three siblings sitting at the kitchen table playing the board game ‘Masterpiece’. 2020: sitting in my home, reading this wonderful little book; revisiting old favorites and discovering new ones. The book is arranged by theme (ex: reading, writing and drawing, music, animals) and includes a diverse sampling of artistic works (paintings, woodblocks, sculptures) from different time periods and cultures. I found this book in Juvenile Non-Fiction, but I feel it can be enjoyed by readers o...
I (Heart) this book!
Honestly, it feels like a cheat to rate this book at all, or to write a review about it. Most text is merely the title of a work, the author (if known), year painted, and who donated it. The rest of the text is occasional cutesy poems about the section to follow. Most of it is a giant boatload of art. So . . . here are a few of my favorite for later self-reference because I know myself and I will forget the titles.p. 104 Marie Josephine Charlotte du Val d'Ognes by MARIE DENISE VILLERSp. 118 Weig...
I think the images will stay with me for a long time, reminding me that anything and everything can be art. Most importantly, there isn't just one way of creating art.
