I love Rocko's Modern Life. When I was a young child, it was my absolute, number one favorite cartoon. I loved the characters, the animation, the voices...I loved everything about the show, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried like a baby when it was taken off the air. Especially when considering what replaced it (on the TV network I had, mind you - I'm in Canada), which if I remember correctly, was the Flipper TV series. Of course that wouldn't be an issue in today's world, since finding episodes
The TV show was one of my favorites growing up. I think the characters translate well to comicbook form and think it's been brought up to recent times well. I'd say this is a guilty pleasure read, it won't make you think dep and I give it 5 stars for stoking the flames of nostalgia.
3.5 stars. It was great to experience these characters again, all of whom were very true to their roots. The stories were entertaining. But the nostalgia factor was what bumped up my rating. The stories alone were 2.5-3 stars. The artwork was easily 5 stars. Read as part of my Comixology unlimited subscription.
3.5This was not as good as I was hoping it to be, but it was still fun to read. I will continue to read these though, with the hope it will improve/capture the magic of the cartoon.
I didn’t expect much, but was pleasantly surprised. This holds up pretty well when compared to the show. A few over-the-top moments that had me laughing. Some mild social commentary (the short about mid-day children’s programming and a tooth with teeth was great).I always liked Ren & Stimpy more as a kid, but as I get older I find myself returning to Rocko more, appreciating the depth of this world and wishing for more. Glad this wasn’t too watered down like some show-to-comics are.
2 stars! 90's nostalgia complete! As a 90's kids I remember watched Rocko's Modern Life every Saturday morning after Rugrats went off and thoroughly enjoying it. Boy did I have poor taste after reading this collection of throwback comic I know realise it was weird as hell. The concepts, the characters and the dialogue was very questionable and a little mature at best. I'm pretty sure Rocko was a phone sex operator, the Bigheads were oversexed and annoyingly present neighbors, Filbert was a hypoc...
I didn't like this as much as I expected, which is sad, because I really liked the show when I was younger. This is so-so, but nothing special. I feel like I'm being overly generous by giving it 3*.
Que maravilla es Rocko, tan volátil, a veces tan hiriente, otras con una simpleza que me relaja. Y leerlo en cómic me recuerda las tardes cuando veía la caricatura con tantas formas, garabatos y peripecias. Maravilloso Rocko!
Rocko's Modern Life was one of my favourite Nickelodeon shows, so I was thrilled to see it redone in comic book form--it translates well. From the art to the humour to the plot, everything was as I remembered it to be, only updated for today. Ferrier did a great job bringing Rocko and the gang into the modern world, and if anything, it made me more more excited about the upcoming revival of the animated series. But, as much as I enjoyed the artwork and plot, personally, I do prefer Rocko's Moder...
Enjoyable in that it's faithful to the series. 4/5.
Synopsis: The first volume of the Rocko's Modern Life's revival comic series contains two main tales and a few filler mini-stories. In the first story, Rocko's loses his job and takes on a position in H̶e̶l̶l̶ Heck. During the second tale, Rocko, Heifer, and Filbert try cheering up a heartbroken Mr. Bighead who thinks his wife left him.My thoughts: To counteract some of the criticisms in the reviews, I shall address each complaint individually and explain why I disagree :1. 'The art was all over...
This one read a little TOO MUCH like the cartoon, which unfortunately doesn't age super well. The characters haven't evolved, making them too predictable. Most of the scenes are slightly tweaked versions of stories that have already happened in the original show. The shorts after the main story issues were actually more interesting than the rest!
Well...that was disappointing.Like any 90's kid would, I flipped the fuck right out when I saw this at the book store as the nostalgic memories came rushing back at lightening speed. And then I opened it.This is not the Rocko's Modern Life of old. It's much...cleaner, I guess. The characters felt miles away from the ones I remember...and it just...it wasn't right. The reason--the only reason--I'm being generous enough to grant this more than one star is because of the very, very minuscule (but st...
I really liked this first volume, it felt like I was watching the actual TV show which made me feel very nostalgic because Rocko's Modern Life was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I will definitely continue on with the second volume
Funny
This was absolutely wonderful. This is what I wanted from the Static Cling reboot. It's so perfectly Rocko in our modern world. I adore it!
Rocko's Modern Life was a good show. This book is actually pretty good. But, this book was perhaps too on-the-nose. It hurt. I think the author meant for it be funny. But I thought it was too painful, maybe?
I definitely have warm memories of watching Rocko’s Modern Life on Nickelodeon during those summer vacations when my parents would splurge on cable for a couple of months. I recalled a show filled with innuendos that I might not have gotten at the time but seem playfully clever now, along with a satirical depiction of modern American daily life. Of course, I haven’t actually watched it for like, gulp, twenty years or something…Recently, I was curious to learn that the show was being resurrected
Honestly it was similar to the old cartoon. It was drawn well, other than some of the extra stories. I liked how some of the stories were multi issue. I also felt it captured the spirit of the show pretty well. Will read future volumes for sure.
The stories in this volumes seemed very true to the series as I remembered it. The illustrative styles of the artists involved worked well in the distorted cartoon world of Rocko. Loved the very bleak despair when Rocko lost his job as well as the hopeless depression Mr Bighead felt when Bev Bighead left him. Very wacky stuff but you still really feel for them emotionally.
