This is the first half of the Shattered Grid arc. It is glorious. You might as well retitle this volume "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Infinity War".It's the crisis crossover this franchise desperately needs. So many teams are represented here, from Time Force and RPM to Megaforce and Samurai, and they're all given equal care and respect. The approach to time travel, and the portrayal of the powers themselves, solidifies the notion that every Ranger team is on equal footing. Even moreso than 'So...
Trucking right on through this fantastic series and it is still such a great read! We've now moved on to the first crossover event in the comic's history, the Shattered Grid event starring the ever popular and evil, Lord Drakkon. I loved this volume and am looking forward to reading the next and seeing how it concludes!
*gasp*
1st half of Shattered Grid
It's SHATTERED GRID time! I'm reading both ongoing BOOM! Power Rangers comic series as they are released in trade paperbacks so this means I'm a few months behind on the stories. I somewhat keep up with big reveals via social media. And I did read the first issue of Shattered Grid (MIghty Morphin Power Rangers #25) the day it came out since it was such a huge event. So I was super excited to get Volume 7 in the mail this week! This story is what all of the Kyle Higgins comics have been leading up...
Even though I have never read any of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comics, I figured that Shattered Grid Part 1 would be a good start to get me into an alternate universe of the Power Rangers. In a similar style to crossovers in DC and Marvel, Boom Studios gave us a story that brought together past Power Rangers throughout history against the common enemy of the evil Lord Drakkon and it was really a huge surprise. As one who grew up with the show, this was a dream come true for the kid inside...
Shattered Grid was the event that turned me into a fan of BOOM! Studios Rangers, totally worth it, even if you've never been into the Power Rangers before, trust me, I hated the show as a kid.
Shattered Grid is basically Kyle Higgins' magnum opus on Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, the story he's been building to since the series began and it definitely shows. All of the plot threads, all of the focus he's placed on Tommy, everything he's put in place with the characters comes to an explosive head. The scale of this story is something unto a (good) Marvel event, pulling in Rangers from across the history of the franchise as Lord Drakkon's plan comes to fruition in a multiversal adventure...
This is where things get real. Emotional, world-changing storyline for the rangers. Buckle up!
I expect this to be a popular check-out in my elementary library, as most graphic novels. Grade 4 reading level. I specifically like the action and the way the people are portrayed.
Shattered Grid is nothing special imo. Especially if it doesn't elicit a strong emotional reaction simply seeing the other ranger teams. They didn't make me care about the other ranger teams, so you have to already care about them from watching their shows, which I did not do.
Good volume. That cover.
The stakes are raised in this volume. Tommy is killed and Drakkon is starting his assault on the multiple timelines of different ranger teams. The team has little time to grieve the loss of their teammate before they are called to duty again. This time they are joined by other rangers across the timeline to mount an assault against Drakkon’s forces which seem unstoppable.
This was pretty damn exciting! Right off the bat we have the evil Green Ranger from a different reality planning the ultimate victory. After the betrayal of a certain someone last volume the Green Ranger has the idea to take over everything. Not just one universe, but all. He begins to take different ranger powers from different universes to be the ultimate villain for everyone. You now have all the power rangers from different universes working together to try and stop him. It's both exciting a...
Woke up to @boom!Studios kisses <3
My nerd freak out for this might have been stronger than Infinity War...2nd read: Still loved it. See my notes for play-by-play spoilery reaction type stuff. Basically we get a bunch of PR teams throughout history uniting to fight an evil Tommy.
Cross-generation power rangers issue! On the edge of my seat for the next shattered grid.
