Ronald Stratton, wandering about Wiltshire, suddenly finds himself in a strange land with Neanderthals, Romans, Vikings, eohippi, dinosaurs, and Elaise, a beautiful damsel from King Arthur's court (where they speak Wardour English. They are all at the hub of a time wheel, into which all ages can drop. Ruthless, balloon-headed, telepathic, unisex men from A.D. 6000 frequent the area looking for historical specimen. Captured, slated for vivisection, Ronald and Elaise survive through endless slaughter. Ronald returns to 1936, but goes back to the time hub to join Elaise.
