Will Murray's Pulp Classics
Horror Stories Arthur Leo Zagat

These exciting pulp adventures have been beautifully reformatted for easy reading as an eBook. As a special bonus, Will Murray has written an introduction especially for this Terror Tales series of eBooks.

Horror Stories! The dark companion to Dime Mystery Magazine. Created to showcase stories too horrible for Terror Tales. The third of the triumvirate of fear pulps. This brand of fiction came to be called Weird Menace. The mystery-and-menace formula proved so successful that publisher Popular Publications produced Dime Mystery Magazine, Terror Tales and Horror Stories. These three dominated the Weird Menace genre all through the 1930s. Blurbed as “mystery-horror” stories instead of “mystery-terror,” Horror Stories was formulated differently that its companion titles. Damn the plot. Pour on the menace! This ebook contains a collection of stories from the pages of Horror Stories magazine, all written by Arthur Leo Zagat, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.

Table of Contents:

Horror Stories — An Introduction

Mistress of the Beast — January 1935 issue of Horror Stories
By Arthur Leo Zagat
Up from the greedy swamp came the evil woman of the fog, to trap Stan Dunn and his companions with their own lust, and drag them back to horror inconceivable.

Mistress of Horror — February 1935 issue of Horror Stories
By Arthur Leo Zagat
Beth Stockton had come to minister to the sick — and her sense of duty sent her on, into that cavern of slime and screams where fiends plied a writhing, blood-tipped whip...

Ghouls Ride the Highway — November 1935 issue of Horror Stories
by Arthur Leo Zagat
A horde of ghouls sent that macabre van through the night. Hopeless were Nona Blake’s struggles and her strangled outcries, for the elixir she was bringing her stricken husband was to be used by the Devil’s Doctor — for a Godless rite!

A Lodging in Hell — February-March 1936 issue of Horror Stories
By Arthur Leo Zagat
Wherever she went, Kitty Brian felt the cold, remorseless eyes of the deadly garroter following her — and despairing terror clutched her heart. For how could she, a lone and helpless girl, escape the thing that had changed strong men to gaping corpses!

Summer Camp for Corpses — June-July 1939 issue of Horror Stories
by Arthur Leo Zagat
It giggled like a tiny baby — but its malevolent, luminous face marked the beginning of the terror that turned peaceful Camp Orinol into a gruesome playground of Death!
