Woman: power and prestige in Andean Societies

Woman: power and prestige in Andean Societies

Luis Millones
5/5 ( ratings)
This book studies the elusive role of women in Andean society focusing on the Mochica Culture as well as the imperial Inca elite. Given the concentration of power in the Inca culture bestowed upon the Sun and the Inca, the female figure, as the available records demonstrate, does not cross the status barrier and remains placed in secondary roles.
In studying the XVI century texts and through a careful selection of historical sources a fresh look has shed light on new interpretations supported by psychoanalytical reflection.
This study picks up on the investigation started in 1987 by María Rostworowski, Max Hernández, Moisés Lemlij, Luis Millones and Alberto Péndola in their publication "Entre el mito y la historia". The present work focuses on the interest and involvement in the subject by authors Lemlij and Millones who with the collaboration of their assistants have made this book possible.
