A lively celebration of books, reading, and sharing stories.
Basically have this on hand for any visiting kiddos and god willing my future book-loving children because duh.
I like this book because it's about a turtle who wants his book back, not like Give Me Back My Book!. There was a poster for the library at the end of the book: "Hooray for Books!"
Such a cute read and getting my nephew to cheer "Hooray for books!" is a huge plus ❤️
All the animals have a favorite book in this story about Turtle and his friends.
I'm not sure if the refrain of "hooray for books!" works as well as its predecessor, "hooray for hat!", since turtle is really only excited about ONE book - but it ends with "hooray for storytime!" so certainly it will be beloved by librarians for ages hence.
When Turtle cant’ find his favorite book, he starts to ask his friends. He discovered that each of them has read it and passed it on to other friends to read. While they offer up their own favorite books to Turtle, he insists that his is the best. They continue searching, each time yelling “Hooray for books!” as they move on to the next friend. Once he finds it, and reads it alone, he comes back to his friends sharing all of their books. Turtle then realizes that sharing books is fun, and the be...
On the one hand, Turtle is a little thoughtless and a bit too demanding/persistent, on the other hand, that perfectly personifies some little ones at a certain age. Also, Turtle is more thoughtful in the end (which is a good model for behavior, if you draw extra attention to it)...and if my friend past on my favorite book to someone else, I guess I might be a little bit upset and persistent in finding it as well.
I definitely prefer "Hooray for Hat!" but Brian Won is so reliable with his artform, that I can't help but love most everything he does. This is a perfect storytime book, especially with a book or reading theme, or to kick off a storytime season, or even for a classroom intro to circle time/storytime. It even ends with such a positive message about storytime.
A turtle's desperate search for his favorite book takes him to each of his friends who offer him their favorite/not-so-favorite books until he finds that very special book.Turtle and his friends are good at sharing books. :)An interactive feature for storytimes is when everyone cheers: HOORAY FOR BOOKS!
First sentence: "Where is that book? It's my favorite!" Turtle said. He searched his entire house--but no book.Premise/plot: Turtle cannot find his FAVORITE book. Did he lend it to a friend? He visits his friend one by one to see if his book can be found. Each friend offers him a different book to read instead--one of their favorites. But Turtle wants HIS favorite book. Will Turtle find his book again? Hooray for Books is the third in a series. Readers can also enjoy Hooray for Hat! and Hooray f...
Turtle is looking for his favorite book, but he can’t find it. Then he remembers he shared with his friend Zebra. So he goes to find Zebra, who has lent this book to owl. Each time, the band of friends seeking Turtle’s favorite book grows bigger. Cute story and cute illustrations for the preschool crowd.
I can get behind saying over and over "hooray for books"!
RATING: 4.5 STARS(Review Not on Blog)Turtle wants to read his favourite book. He has looked all over the place so tries to remember who he last lent it to. From there he finds out his favourite book has been passed on to another friend, who passed it on to another friend, etc.I really love the illustrations in this book. I wanted to make most of them into wall art. Even though Turtle seemed to transfixed on one goal - finding and reading his favourite book - I appreciated the sentiment. A silly
I love books about books! Turtle has borrowed out his favorite book and goes from friend to friend to see if they have it.
Will have to read this in storytime obviously. 3rd book in the series and full of fun little details (love that Turtle can speed after his house has been emptied out!), to enjoy. Lion seems much more mellow in this book; see what a good book can do for you?
As a teacher who has always loved to share books with students, friends, and colleagues, I can totally relate to Turtle's frustration as he tries to track down his favorite book. All of our favorite characters from Brian Won's first two books, Hooray For Hat! and Hooray For Today!, are back and joyfully sharing books with each other and celebrating their favorite stories. Vibrant, cheerful illustrations make this a great book for a primary bookshelf!
I extra love this now as an elementary librarian because I can see ways to share this early in the year with the youngest students. The repetitive text is good for rhythm and predicting; the illustrations are simple, but with fun things to look at; and the story shares a love of books and sharing them.
Part of my ongoing personal reading of children's literature project.I'm wholly in sympathy with the sentiment of the title and am anxious to inculcate its attitude in my own grandson (now approaching age four).Compared to the twenty or so others I've read in this category, Hooray for Books! is okay, but not stunning. It's one of those repeat-the-situation books. The turtle wonders where the book he read disappeared to, and he realizes he loaned to someone. Each other animal in turn has passed i...
A great book to show young children that all books are different and different people will have different books they love. I would read this book with young children (FS and KS1) and then encourage them to recommend books to their friends and peers. Maybe through book reviews which could be displayed in the class. A great book to encourage discussions about likes and dislikes in books.
