Hooray for Brian Won's excellent art and all the ingredients for a party in this book!
This is a book about an owl who has woke up for his day. Unfortunately, his day is actually everyone else's night. So he is going around to all of his friends and asking them if they want to play with him. But they just keep responding to him saying, "not now I'm sleepy." He asks all the animals from turtle to lion, and they are all to sleepy to play. It isn't until morning when the sun comes up that all of his friends are waiting for him to play at his house. I enjoyed reading this book. It see...
Super cool book and loved the repetition along with the sweet surprise at the end. This owl is ready for his day while all of his friends are ready for bed. He goes to his pals, lion, zebra, and elephant but everyone just seems to be so sleepy. I love how respectful he is of his friends' decision to sleep and not play with him. When owl thinks all is lost, and starts to head home near dawn, her friends were waiting at her tree to play! Owl needs a nap and is then ready to play! This is a sweet b...
Owl, the main character is wide awake when the moon is shining and wants to play with his friends, but all of them are sleepy at night. At the end, his friends want to play with him, but the sun is coming up, and now it is owl's turn to sleep. This book has a theme of playfulness throughout and is good for reading to children at night, which is why I rated it a four out of five stars. I feel some of the children I nanny for would like this book. Genre: Picture Book, FantasyAges: K-2nd
This book is about an owl (which is a nocturnal animal) who wants to play with all of his animal friends, however all of the animals say that they can't play because they are too sleepy. Then in the end, when the sun starts to come up the owl is about to go to bed when his friends surprise him. They want to play, however owl is now too tired. I think this would be a great read aloud book for children around the ages of 3-7 because it has great eye catching illustrations.
Owl wakes up one evening in a wonderful mood, and wanting to share what promises to be a fun day with her friends, gathers all of her toys and seeks them out. Unfortunately, her nocturnal habits are not in line with those of her day-time companions, and each of them, from Elephant to Lion, is too sleepy to play with her. Dispirited at the seeming rejection, Owl heads home, arriving at dawn to discover all of the other creatures waiting for her, ready to play...Like its predecessor, Hooray for...
At night, Owl is ready to play. But, all of her friends are tired and preparing for bed. When the sun rises, Owl's friends are ready to play, but owl is ready for sleep!
This is a fun book for children. Throughout the story Owl is very excited for the day and wants everyone to play with her. Everyone tells the owl they are sleepy because in reality the owls day is actually everyone else's night. It is cute because the owl is so excited but doesn't realize it is night. This would be very enjoyable to young children. In addition, the illustrations throughout almost all of the book have a dark blue background to show that it is night, and they brighten up at the en...
I like the owl's sweet attitude each time a friend turns down her offer to play. She is kind and respectful, leaving one of her belongings with each of them and doing something thoughtful, like reading aloud a bedtime story or playing a lullaby (on her trumpet...admittedly, that one was naively thoughtless, though she tried to be sweet). She only began to grumble with disappointment when the night was almost spent and she hadn't found anyone who wanted to play. Then all her friends woke up and we...
We all have times when we want to play. And we all have times when we want to sleep. Aren't we all thankful for when others want to play too.** Talking Points: Who are some of your best friends now? Who have been some of your best friends through your life? What do you do to help support each other?** Essential Oil Pairing Tip: Time to sleep? Try diffusing Lavender essential oil. Time to play? Try diffusing doTERRA's Citrus Bliss to make the home a more joyful and carefree place.
This is a wonderful book for storytime. I found that my toddlers didn't really engage with "Hooray for Hat!" when I gave that a go, but they LOVED "Hooray for Today!" As I read, I asked the children to repeat "sleep tight, Zebra," "nighty-night, Giraffe," and the various other ways of saying "good night" throughout the book. They had a lot of fun with it, and also enjoyed shouting HOORAY. To go along with the book, I brought in a party hat like the one Owl wears in the story, and we played a nam...
perfectly average and somewhat predictable. Cute art. Cute characters. Would have loved this to be another Great Day For Up type classic or a Bear Snores on done even better.
A cute book all about being sleepy!
This is only the second picture book from Brian Won, the first one, Hooray for Hat, being published in 2014 and now this one in 2016. This reader is willing to wait on Won's creations. Won's illustrations are spot on in his graphic presentation and in the color palette. The storyline in this one is super, Owl says hooray for today, but owl's today is his friends night and owl does make an effort to get each of his friends to play. Hooray for Today is a great combination, of story, color illustra...
I admit ... I was high on GRUMPINESS today. So many little things going not how I wanted. This didn't solve all that. But it helped. It's just too cute. ;)
This book was about an owl who was ready to play and hang with some friends at night. But the only problem is that he has a different sleep schedule than the other animals so everyone he is asking is sleep and saying tomorrow or not right now owl. So he gets sad but as he is going to sleep, all his friends are waiting on him to play but it’s the morning and it’s his sleep time now. But he tells them after my nap I’ll play with you guys. It’s an alright book, just wish they would have implied to
This is a cute book and a great way to teach your students to learn the idea of patience. This book is about a little owl who when the moon is out he is up and ready to play. Everyone around him was sleepy and did not want to play with him. He was starting to get lonely as the night went on and no one wanted to play with it. When it got to be sunrise he finally found someone that would play with him. I think that this book would be great in a classroom, but not for the hospital setting. In the c...
Great read-aloud for pre-K.
This poor night owl just wants to play. What do his friends want to do? Sleep. I found this book very relatable...
First sentence: "I'm wide awake and ready to play!" said Owl. "This will be a good, good day."Premise/plot: Owl is ready to start the day. The problem? Owl's "day" is actually night. And all of Owl's friends are asleep--or about to asleep. Owl is frustrated and sad that no one wants to PLAY. My thoughts: I liked this one. I didn't like it the first time I read it, however. I needed to meet Owl and friends properly by reading Hooray for Hat! Once I got 'attached' to the characters I went back to
