This book took me months to read ( a lot longer than a book normally takes me) - It is one thing to know about this aspect of american history and the magnitude of the atrocities committed at that time.. but it is another to peel through so many accounts one by one in detail... It was painful.. but I believe necessary to go through. I did not expect to grow, and crumble, and grow... in the ways I have with this book. Keep your eyes open, and look around you.
This was a hard read. But a needed reminder to show the happenings of a past not too long ago, as well as showing the horrible consequences of mob mentality, and the consequences of letting those mentalities go unchecked.
One of the most powerful books I have ever read!Makes me reconsider War crimes, the meaning of barbaric and the good ole USA? The book was brutally honest backed up by facts!
This is a book that definitely has its place in history. There need to be accounts of atrocities and racism. There are people trying to erase awareness. I both read and scanned this book. It was too depressing/horrific to read too closely. I particularly appreciate that these actually are, and are presented as newspaper clippings. I just don't believe the statistics on lynchings, I think they were much higher. Yet we must appreciate that as a part of history too.Painful and enlightening, it take...
One of the hardest things I have had to read, but a must. I also didn't necessarily want to rate this with 5 stars. But as far as books go, it got the point across. It will also be a must read for suggested curriculums for the enlightenment of the human species and it's potentiality to go the unenlightened route... and it's consequences.
One of the most important books to read to understand racism in America: it's all here, laid out in all its brutal, horrifying, evil forms - lynchings, torture, immolation, mob murder, etc. Incredibly difficult to read. The presentation is powerful - Ginzburg presents newspaper articles sans commentary because none is needed - the horrifying atrocities speak for themselves.
History continues. This book is a compilation of 100 years of newspaper articles covering lynchings of black people all over the United States. North and South. Lynching of men, women and children, performed for the sport and entertainment at the hands their fellow citizens. A detailed look at state sanctioned hunting and torture of human beings.
Outstanding content This was moving and some on the acts were remembered by my grandparents. White AmeriKKKa should be ashamed. No I’m not for BLA, this have been hijacked by LGBTXYZ. I’m on code with the #NFAC
Incredibly difficult.Incredibly important.
Gives incredible yet disheartening insight into the ugly, dark history of the American South
Devestating and heartbreaking but an important account of a horrible part of our past.
