The Hope of Heaven: We Shall be in the Likeness of His Resurrection

The Hope of Heaven: We Shall be in the Likeness of His Resurrection

Every human being has a desire to cling to this life. This is only natural because our earthly existence is all we know. To think of heaven and an eternal existence is beyond our comprehension. It is impossible to think of existing forever with the God who fashioned the universe out of nothing! But this is the great hope and eternal promise made plain and spoken of so often in the Word of God.

Such a hope is referred to many times in both the Old and the New Testament. Sometimes this promise is couched in terms that may escape us at first. For example, the Bible speaks of God as the present Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses wrote: “The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, has appeared to me ...” . This tells us that these patriarchs are still alive, they are residing with God in glory. They are out of their bodies but they are presently with the Lord God who created them.

The poet Job goes even further and writes:

“I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth. … Even though my flesh will be destroyed, yet from my flesh I shall see God; whom I myself shall behold, and whom my eyes shall see and not someone else. … My heart will faint within me [when I see Him].”
