Victoria Fordyce Britt, twenty-three, a super model reluctantly agrees to do photo opts with Bailey "Slick" Grant to please her stepmother, the titular head of the wealthy Shinpoch clan. That's where she meets Slick - at the Shinpoch fund-raiser, and sees how adroit his political skills really are, not knowing that Slick had singled her out, because she was the most glamorous girl in the world - more importantly, knowing the baby boomers and generation X people equated glamour with success. Thus, turning his weaknesses into strengths, because no one would dare try to scandalize Victoria, because she was an avowed virgin, and it worked - pleased the soccer moms. Victoria sees how power-driven the President and First Lady really are, both willing to do nearly anything to raise re-election money - feels sorry for vice president Wooden Head, who is forced to play the game. She is disgusted by Slick's bizarre scandals ( the impregnated black daughter of a preacher, his consultant's sexual fetish, the young woman who claims Slick raped her when she was a teenager, on top of the Asian money scandals. Each time Victoria tries to quit, Slick begs, weeps, and he's sincere. Completely fed up, Victoria, the re- election in the bag, leaves Washington.
