Burch at the Helm

Burch at the Helm

David Burch
4.5/5 ( ratings)
Practical knowledge for Inland, Coastal, and Ocean waters that makes your sailing safer and
more efficient.

The compilation of navigation and weather articles included here were originally published in Blue Water Sailing magazine over a period of several years. They cover diverse topics, but each is intended to enhance the safety and efficiency of navigation. Though published in a magazine devoted to sailing, these subjects and the information contained applies to all vessels, power, sail, and paddle.

They have been regrouped by topic, so the order presented here does not reflect the order of original publication. For the most part they deal with special issues, not often covered in detail in standard references. Some were motivated by issues of the day when published, but we have updated all as needed with new resources on the topics.

Topics include:

GENERAL NAVIGATION

INLAND & COASTAL NAVIGATION

OCEAN & CELESTIAL NAVIGATION

MARINE WEATHER

OCEAN & TIDAL CURRENTS

The author has extensive experience on these topics and has been awarded Fellow grade in both the US and the Royal Institutes of Navigation. He is the Director of Starpath School of Navigation in Seattle, which offers online training in marine navigation and weather.
