I loved M. Bennardo's story in Beneath Ceaseless Skies #122, and this story has a very similar feel. While in 'The Penitent' I thought the open mysterious ending worked very well, in this case it felt like I missed something (or maybe the story is too clever for me).'Now Ix, He Was a Lover' is a thinly veiled story about racism and prejudice. The oppressed being elves didn't add much, but it's a nicely executed story.
