I actually had a tear in my eye on the last page...
Unlike other stories in the Watchmen the story of Dollar Bill focuses only on him and does not affect the history of Watchmen. I guess that's what makes it good, unlike other Before Watchmen characters that you can't help but to compare them to the original Moore Watchmen. It's a light read. Illustration is bad, though.Recommendation: Read it to make you feel good that not all Minutemen or Watchmen were messed up.
Dollar Bill, one of the original Minutemen, is not one of those characters covered in detail in Watchmen (I can't even remember if he is mentioned at all). As outlined in the Minutemen series, Dollar Bill was originally a bank mascot, with the financial corporation looking to cash in on the superhero fad. The corporate ambitions soon go too far and Dollar Bill goes from being an advertising figurehead to part of the Minutemen, albeit one who lurks in the background and only comes out for the pho...
It was fine. Short. Not much content.
Really not the best one, in every aspects possible, in the Before Watchmen series. Didn't like it!
good
i loved it amazing story telling skills by len wein even tho i cant seem to figure how dollar bill is telling the tale of his own death lol but any how i like how the origins of the watchmen is going ^^
It was okay, I read it because I really enjoyed Watchmen
I'm not sure how I feel about this, maybe it's the art and maybe it's that he's not that interesting of a character because he's being portrayed as a product. Or maybe DC got greedy.
Dollar Bill's origin story and death were pretty interesting. He wants to be an actor, but the only gig he could get was fictional superhero Dollar Bill. After being accepted into The Minutemen for the publicity he'd bring them, he ended up working hard to become a bonafide real hero. He died because his cape got stuck - he hated the cape - and the bad guys filled him with bullets. I enjoyed this quick read about the life and death of Dollar Bill, a true hero.
7/10
I actually quite enjoyed the story of Dollar Bill, he's an all American lad trying to make a difference in the world, his inclusion to the Minutemen was explored and his demise was further explained.
One of those books that I have been meaning to read for a very long time and it didn't disappoint me.
Those who are familiar with the Watchmen lore know Dollar Bill as a bank mascot costumed vigilante who was tragically and helplessly gunned down by robbers because his cape got stuck at the bank's revolving door. This eponymous one-shot issue tells that same story and does more by giving our money man a personality and backstory. His roller coaster life is told in pretty much linear fashion.I liked reading it, and if there is something I will remember in this issue, it is definitely the bright co...
Surprisingly good!
This series of back stories is brilliant in both style and content, reflecting back on the golden age of super heroes but with a critical eye.
If it is possible to call any character from Watchmen frivolous it would be Dollar Bill and here is his adequately frivolous story. Enjoyable illustration from Watchmen universe done in a more satirical manner.
