The World Of Prostitutes (2 Volumes)

The World Of Prostitutes (2 Volumes)

S. K. Ghosh
0/5 ( ratings)
The book comprises of prostitutes; clients and exploiters of prostitution-procures; pimps; madams; landlords, who rent out their premises; brothel keepers, gangsters of the underworld, law enforcers, courts and correctional institutions. The author traces prostitution and prostitutes from the earliest twilight in which the history dawns to the clear daylight of today, without a pause, or a moment of obscurity. The history of the world demonstrates the existence of prostitution in all ages, and among all nations, since the day its first pages were written. No man made laws and rigors of punishment have been able to suppress the evil. The earliest measure to combat international traffic in women and girl, for the purpose of prostitutio, was taken by the League of Nations in its 1910 Convention when White Slave Traffic was banned. The convention made trafficking of a woman or a minor girl from one country to another, for the purpose of prostitution punishable offence. This was followed by United Nations 1949 Convention for the suppression of Traffic in Persons and of Exploitation of prostitution of others. In the world of today there have been three different trends in regard to the state involvement with prostitution. The first towards complete ban, declared prostitution as illegal. The second in towards regulation, which involves government control of prostitution through registration and licensing of prostitutes, their fingerprinting and carrying of identification cards and mandatory medical checks. The third promoted by the United Nation 1949 Convention, eliminates administrative and police regulations;forbids soliciting in public places;prohibits pimping and establishment of organized prostitution;provides protection for those vulnerable to prostitution;and helps reintegration into society of those who wished to renounce prostitution.
