The Dark Horse "Conan" series currently suffers malaise brought about by the departure of the original Busiek/Nord team and having already covered most of the "best" of the Robert E. Howard "Conan" stories. Volume 10 is enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but it's another dose of sword-swinging adventure that doesn't advance the greater storyline or bring any new facet to the "Conan" universe. Worth a read, but it pales in comparison to the Busiek/Nord volumes of the series.
I love the term 'hyborean scholar' used in the afterward of this collection. I'm pretty sure that's a life long pursuit, but I'd definitely take a course on it. The artists Tomas Giorello and Jose Villarrubia have created my favorite interpretation of Conan and his world thus far. Been reading some of the newer DH Conan the Avenger, and it's okay, but the art can't compare to these guys. In these pages I can hear the screams of the battlefield, feel the culling of limbs reaped by the sword of a
Ive read this story before in both book and Graphic novel form but I had not read Dark Horses version I found it excellent. Told through Olivia's point of view (wayward princess lost and betrayed) She falls in with Conan, they find an Island and have several harrowing adventures there before escaping. Not.one.of the more famous, but a good Conan story nontheless. Great art... although some.of the early panels are muddied a bit. I wasnt a huge fan of the bonus story but I didnt let that change.th...
Yet another Crom-ulent read in this Dark Horse run!Our Hero has been humbled by his bloody defeat at the Ibars, so it was a nice change of pace to see him go back into indomitable survival mode with a new (and most scantily-clad yet!) love interest, Olivia of Ophir, to tag along and serve as the volume's narrative voice.I loved the prologue featuring the horrific sacrifice of the golden boy, and loved even more the recap (from Olivia's POV) of the brutal duel between Conan and that ruthless cur
A cracking 4 part main story and good 2 parter - the main story, "Iron Shadows in the Moon" is archetypal Conan. Our hero, coming off the back of the massacre of his army, meets a beautiful damsel in distress and the pair find themselves hiding out in some dark and haunted ruins. Throw in a bunch of pirates (including an old and bitter enemy of our Cimmerian hero) and a giant gorilla for Conan to fight and you have all of the usual ingredients. It is not a special Conan story, it's very much one
Conan: Iron Shadows in the Moon and Other Stories by Timothy Truman, Tomas Giorello, Darick Robertson and Jose Villarrubia, is another excellent Conan graphic novel from Dark Horse Books. This is volume 10 of the Dark Horse series and I have enjoyed all ten of them thus far. I have been a fan of Robert E. Howard’s big fella since I was a teenager, when I read many of his Conan stories. I must say that the interpretation of Howard’s tales, written by Truman and beautifully illustrated Giorello an...
I enjoyed both stories in this volume. The larger, "Iron Shadows in the Moon" moves Conan from Free Companion to Pirate, and introduces him to the Princess of Ophir who would sail with him. The writers do a great job of weaving threads of their own devising together to tie into this story--a Robert E. Howard original that they've adapted--bringing key characters from the previous arcs back yet again to culminate in this story. Thus as Conan enters into the great clashes of this volume, they seem...
This is the first of the Conan graphic novels where I was drawn in enough to go back to The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian and read the original story so I could have it fresh in my mind, so that's a point in its favor. After the shattering defeat on the Ilbars River and killing Shah Amurath, Conan and Olivia steal a boat and take to the Vilayet Sea, landing on an island with ancient ruins. They rest in the ruins but Olivia has a dream about an ancient murder and a god's curse, and in a panic she
Conan deserves so much better treatment than this.
Darkhorse Comics adaptation of Conan the Barbarian. Some of the stories are adaptation of some of Robert E. Howards best stories, others are original stories by the Darkhorse Writers. A very nice collection of stories if you like the sword and sorcery genre.

Not up to snuff. I love Conan, but this is not his best. The main story line concerning the deserted tropical island, shadowy ruins, pirates, slavering monsters, and one scantily clad wench is OK. It's not great, but it doesn't fall apart. The pirate captain does have a beer gut like your fat uncle Larry that makes seeing him as a fierce swordsman a bit of a stretch. The two stories pinned on at the end are amateurishly written and drawn and bring the whole book down a notch.
This is a fun story. It starts with Conan hunting down a man and then escaping to a haunted island and fighting pirates. Overall a great bit of fun. The arts amazing. The short side story at the end wasn’t as strong story and art wise but it was fine.
Somehow this disappointed me. I finished this feeling that I had not read a Conan story. Despite trying to like it and re-reading it, it just felt like filler and poor filler at that. SpoilerConan abandoning the sleeping pirates to their fate without making any attempt to save them or help them fight their way out or even to warn them is just wrong. It is inconcsistent with the character of Conan as written by RE Howard.end spoilerIn comparison, the Born on the Battlefield storyline was so much
Tomas Giorello is a wonderful artist and he captures the feel of the mysterious island and the creatures that live there very well. An excellent graphic novel.
The new Conan comic series does good justice to the Robert E. Howard stories. While the art does come and go in quality at time, overall it is a good. The adaptations of the original stories is well done. The fill in stories are also well done and follow the flow of the Character's life as written by Howard. Recommended to comic fans and Very recommended to Howard and Conan fans.
