Healing: The Joy of Medicine (and Sorrow Too)

Healing: The Joy of Medicine (and Sorrow Too)

John E. Woods
0/5 ( ratings)
This book is a recounting of actual experience with patients in a wide variety of areas and circumstances from the streets of Beijing, to inner city hospitals, to medicine and surgery in the jungles and subsequently to training and practice in several areas of surgery at prominent academic medical institutions with patient identities carefully disguised. It deals from the courageous, to the cowardly, to the poignant and humorous, to the fascinating and challenging, the very young to the very old. The author’s perspective is clearly that patients are the very center of medicine and that they are due profound respect and gentleness in treatment. As fellow human beings each patient deserves the very best that a caregiver may provide. My personal experience is that the practice of medicine and surgery offers a rarely paralleled opportunity to experience joy in the human realm.
