On the series: This is my first read of this story and comes after watching the first few seasons of the tv show. Author does a good job of recreating the feel and goes further by, I think, adding internal monologues from characters other than Michael. On this book: A nice story about people connected in a few ways, how someone might improve upon their past, and how to repurpose toys & old tyme tools.
If you are a fan of Burn Notice you will be a fan of this book. Always an entertaining read true to the characters in the TV show.
Just like watching the show :) Perfect!
If you liked the series--and I did--especially in the early seasons when the gang were like Miami's Robin Hoods/Avengers, you'll like this book. Michael's voice in the narrative pulls up the actor's voice from the series as you read. Fiona's even better here. Both she and Sam get their own 3rd person point of view when Michael's not with them, just as the TV series did.
Michael tries to help a reformed gang leader turned priest escape his past when his former gang tries to use him to launder money and hide other activities. The characters are pitch perfect and the plot feels like something from the show itself. A great read whether you are a fan of the show or not.Read my full review here at Carstairs Considers.
another great companion to the TV series on USA Network
Every time I read "Burn Notice" book I can't get over the fact that it's just like watching an episode. The characters seem very much in character, as it were =), and even the voice overs carry through to the book. Plus they usually don't involve the nonsense of Michael's quest to find out who burned him, etc. They mention it, of course, but then it's all about the client of the week and the 'wacky' capers and explosions that follow to help out said client. Plus this one had Barry. =D
I am obsessed with the show, so of course I had to start reading the book series! I found the way Michael is perceived is remarkably like his character in the show, which I really liked. The manner in which the main characters act and are described is as if they never left my TV screen! Goldberg tells a burned spy's tale in a way that's too gripping to put down. Action-packed, this book is a MUST READ FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO WATCH USA WAY TOO MUCH.
Another novel based on the Burn Notice TV series, in my opinion the best TV show on. Enjoyed this book felt simply like an extended episode, even with Mike's voice overs.
One of my daughters snagged this from me when I brought it home. She is a huge fan of the show and has read another of the paperback novels (the other titles in the series are The Fix, The Endgame, and The Giveaway) while we were on vacation last year. I have to say, I look forward to these novels. I don’t get to watch the show that much anymore because I am reading most of the time; I guess you can tell. Besides that, I like Tod Goldberg’s narrative; I like his voice in all of this. He makes Mi...
Read just like an episode of the show. Goldberg really captured the essence of Michale, Fiona, and Sam! Just might have to find other books in this series.
This is the best Burn Notice novel I've read yet!
Great BN Book!
Fun and fluffy brain candy.
This book sounds exactly like the TV show – only in written form. Most of the chapters are narrated by Michael, but some are from a third person POV; usually Sam, but I think I remember some Fiona parts, too. A good read. If you like the show, you can’t go wrong here.
Became a fan of the TV show and when I found out there was a series of novels I just had to check it out. While not every chapter starts with the phrase "When your a Spy", it's pretty close.A pleasant page turner when your in between books, but doesn't really offer much to fans of the show.
Tod Goldberg, with this book, captures the essence of a TV show better than I've seen any other author do before. He obviously knows the show to a tee, and, with the exception of a few political asides that seem out of place, it's impossible to find fault with his characterizations. He no longer seems like he's trying too hard to be clever, either. The wit of his narrative feels perfectly effortless and natural. If only all TV tie-in novels were more like this...
Usually I don't read book tie-ins from TV series but I'm missing Burn Notice this summer and decided to give these books a try. Not too bad. The characters are true to the TV show and so are the cases. Not quite as good as watching new episodes on TV but I'll enjoy reading the other books in this series. A quick and easy read for a summer evening or afternoon.
I have to admit to being a little embarrassed for liking this but I did. I actually liked the show (which came first for me) until it did the all-about-the-relationship thing I dislike - but up until then it was great for ironing. The book did the story better.
Love, love, love the series and enjoy reading the books now that the series is completed.
