I'm not going to dive into anything about the author, because even though that's the type of drama I love, I'm going to keep this short.This book is something I say a lot about older works: it's fine, but there's better out there today. 3.5I really enjoyed this story about a brother and sister living on a Bahamian island in 1492 just before Columbus and his men arrived. I read it aloud with my 10 year old daughter, who said it was just ok. We had a great discussion about assumptions and how they are frequently wrong - what Morning Girl assumed about the Spanish, what the Spanish assumed about the Taino people. For that, it was worth the slower pace.
