I loved this book so much I had never read the books (only seen the movies) as is usually the case the book was better. You really get Anne's voice in the books.
I loved this book. I have to admit that the only reason I gave it a shot was due to the Netflix series "Anne with an E" this kind of book isn't normally my cup of tea. This book was cute, funny and wholesome. It really gave me plenty room for "scope of imagination." I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
Another children's novel read many years ago. Highly recommended for beginning readers. Adults might find it interesting as an introduction to the maritime provinces of Canada.
Loved this beautiful book!
Great book!
Anne is such a beautiful girl, i absolutely love this book series. To see her develop from a traumatized little girl into a gorgeous, strong woman is amazing.
has been a long time since i revisited this childhood classic. At first i thought i should have left it in to nostalgia but as i read on, it gained momentum and i was was shedding more than a tear at the end. Still can't read it without flashbacks to the tv series. Such a spirited character that I once envied but now would just want to slap...
Listened to this with the kids for the first time
The ultimate nice book. This is a book that proves that stories aren't about events, they're about people and conflict. I love Anne, Marilla, Diana, and Matthew, and every time I re-read this book, I cry. But it's the good kind of crying.Addition 5/2010: I listed to Barbara Caruso's reading of this book, and it was brilliant. Listening to it made me realize how this is almost as much Marilla's story as it is Anne's.
This book is about a girl named Anne. She's an orphan who moves in with siblings named Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. Anne is described as a youthful redhead girl with freckles across her cheeks, and her long red hair is usually up in braids. Anne is a pretty positive person, and she's really, really, really, talkative. This book is about her life living under Marilla and Matthew's house. The story goes from when she was a young girl, up until she turns into a young adult. I don't want to say tha...
it is a great book its the only one ive read from the series but its a really fun story anne is really funny and someone i tink i could get along with its a sweet story. a girl comes from an orphanage and is so excited to have a family it just is about adventures and situations she gets herself into.
Anne of Green Gables may not be current but I enjoyed it just the same. It is a wholesomely brilliant book. I can't believe I only discovered it now. If you are depressed, this overly talkative and wildly imaginative orphan named Anne will wipe out all your depression away. You should not miss out on this classic.
a fiesty heroine to adulate
I don't know why I waited so long to read this book. I am anxious to read the rest of the series. Kids loved it too.
Why did I read this as a kid? Does it correlate with my liking Gillian Welch's Orphan Child? Or more my appreciation of 1983 She-Ra?
I picked up a paperback copy at the library when I was in seventh grade because my mom suggested I should read new books instead of just re-reading the Betsy-Tacy series, Little House series and the Wizard of Oz series. I had a hard time getting into it and ended up misplacing the book. Fortunately the library did not issue fines back then, so when I found it several months later in one of my classes (while searching the shelf for a silent reading book) I was able to continue and was hooked. I f...
Anne is charming and adorable and oh so frustrating. Her imagination entices us and her innocent nature makes us laugh. She is Oliver Twist, the orphan who finally is given a home. She is the girl they couldn't send back. She is irresistible as she grows from a reckless dreamer to a mature woman. She is the adventure of our youth, the love we bear for our personal stories and legends, the times we dare ourselves to show them what we can do. She is not frozen in Green Gables, she is the expansive...
It took me forever to read this book! I loved it though. As someone who "suffers" from red hair myself, I just love Anne. The girl has a flair for the dramatic and a very active imagination. My grandma gave me the first three books of this series when I was about 9. She read them as a young girl and thought I'd enjoy them. Never read them until now (almost 20 years later), but it makes me feel close to her and miss her. I'm looking forward to reading the rest!
classic from my adolescent years. Not only did I read all the books in this series. I abosolutely fell in love with the miniseries and went around for days saying, "I'm sorry Anne" in my put-on Canadian accent. It was great. Seriously, this is a wonderful book that all coming of agers should read. It covers everyday life with everyday relationships and problems. It is wholesome; it is joyful; it is lovely. Highly recommended...but fare warning, you will fall in love with Gilbert
I love Anne. I hope all my little girls read this series. It's not easy to find wholesome, witty, ambitious, humorous, kind... role models. I can't help but feel close to Anne. I was given this series when I was 10. It was a series that belonged to my cousin Becky. She died when she was 13 of cancer.
