Who is this enigma known to the science fiction community as Dirk Flinthart? I first came across him as a character in John Birmingham's classic novel The Tasmanian Babes Fiasco many years ago, then he was associated with another Birmingham book with the all encompassing title How to be a Man, where he dispensed dubious fashion tips and cooking ideas.
