This publication documents the second session of the Committee for Development Policy focusing on three main the role of information technology in development; an international development strategy for 2001-2010; and the triennial review of the list of least developed countries. The publication recounts how the recent wave of technological change has opened new possibilities for economic growth. It emphasizes the need to address developing countries' necessities and national and international policies in order to reduce inequalities in the distribution of knowledge, and information technology. Poverty amidst Riches proposes a series of recommendations for the planning of a new development strategy for 2001-2010; in particular it advises that it should be based on a review of the successes and failures of previous development strategies. The purpose of Poverty amidst Riches is to present a series of analysis and recommendations in order to contribute to the problem solving of world wide inequalities and disparities.
