Looks like the big introduction finished. I'm really looking forward to the events that will follow.
Onwards and forwards I plod amongst this book's pages. Omnomnom.
A great continuation to the series. It’s interesting, because the movie plot (well, most of it) wraps up with this volume and in a definitely different direction. I don’t know what’s going to happen from here. I have a few guesses, given movie aspects that haven’t made it into the manga yet, but not a ton.As someone who has seen the film far too many times to count, it’s fascinating to note the differences, to see where they combined and changed things. I’m really enjoying it!Of course, even if I...
I won't be continuing this any time soon. I got so confused and will need to start from the beginning..
I just don't think this series is for me. It's mostly warfare action. The majority of sentences have an exclamation point at the end, which I find a bit distracting...
This was a great volume! I've discovered that the movie only covers volumes 1 and a 3/4 of volume 2. I can't wait to see what happens in volume 3.
It's almost impossible for a two part work to be so magnificent, and yet Nausicaa manages to be just that.I usually just, to quote a friend, ingest graphic novels, and the reason I was able to finish my 2017 reading goal so quickly was largely because of them. Nausicaa has been a challenge because in order to appreciate this book the reader is forced to slow down and observe the detail that is packed into every frame of this incredible book. Miyazaki manages to fill his world with people, creatu...
This is where you see a clear distinction between the movie and the manga and you realize that the movie, as good as it is, is only a tiny fraction of the amazing world Miyazaki has created. This series is absolutely brilliant.
I didn't quite understand this one, but the artwork and action made it fun to read nonetheless.
Something quick to be absorbed in little over an hour, I am fascinated by how this young girl is going to be a hero for many people.
The first two books essentially cover the the plot of the Studio Ghibli film, looking forward to what happens in the next five!
I watched all of Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki's movies and Nausicaä always had an interesting look. The visuals were great and the story interesting - people surviving in an era of pollution and giant insects, all sprinkled with that Ghibli magic, with fantasy creatures and warm human faces. My next stop was Miyazaki's manga he did for the movie. I always liked a deluxe, hardcover edition so my boyfriend surprised me with a gift :). From then on I couldn't put it down.I was surprised on how the stor...
Looks like we're done with introducing the premise, and are getting to the real meat of the story from here on. So far so good.
Art is still amazing. Story is still confusing. There seems to be a story here somewhere. It's not clear to me if it the story has been lost in translation. Or maybe it's supposed to be that confusing. Maybe it gets clearer later.
My experience of reading Nausicaa this time round is a bit of a jolt. I collected the old Viz issues assiduously when they came out, and read and reread them, but there were big gaps in my collection and big gaps of time between new issues. When I got these collections over a few years for my son I never got around to sitting down and reading the whole lot until now, and it is really hard to stop once started.Nausicaa and Asbel escape from the forest only to be captured by a lurking Dorok ship w...
God this series is so good. It’s post apocalyptic world is so full of hope and beauty, despite being a world also filled with war, senseless death, and rot. I love being able to simmer in Miyazaki’s world, with much more depth and breadth than any film could allow.
"Can you not hear it for yourselves? The anger of the very earth, rising like the tide of the sea [...] Listen to me [...] No doubt the future will bring you even more suffering than you know today... Already your homeland is lost, your relatives slaughtered... And now you must continue to wander, bent under the tyranny of overbearing authority. But do not despair, my family. Endure your pain, bear children even in these days of shame, and raise them well."This is shaping up to be one of my favo...
I love this series so far, but I want more. This world clearly has such a rich history and I want to know all of it, but I also feel respected by Miyazaki. He clearly believes his audience can fill in the blanks and follow the story without huge sections of historical back story.Again, Nausicaa is an amazing heroine. Her heart and her view on the world is utterly inspiring. I especially loved the scene with Mito as she outfits herself in gifts from both friends, family, and strangers. It is a to...
This is book 2/7 in the 風之谷 series, the manga that launched Hayao Miyazaki's career (some people approached him about turning it into a film - the film version only covers books 1-2).What I find remarkable is how a story this terrible managed to launch Miyazaki's career. Sure, I might have enjoyed it when I was ten years old (in fact, the plot closely resembles the kinds of books I read at that age), but as an adult I doesn't really do much for me. That being said, the vocabulary is pretty advan...
So interesting to see which parts of the manga made it into the film, and which were modified or cut out entirely. The world of Nausicaa is so much larger than most people know about. I love Nausicaa, she's fierce but gentle, and I admire her perseverance through the horrors she faces. Hayao Miyazaki is indeed a genius.
