This is the second story of Gene O'Neill's that I've read set in his CalWild post-apocalyptic setting. I took a seven-year breather between my last foray into CalWild and this one. Unfortunately, except for his inventive penal system (which makes a cameo appearance of sorts in this novella), there's little here that rings with any originality.
